Masked Rider was actually a REALLY bad idea. The footage from Black RX was 7 years old by the time Masked Rider was created and new Kamen Rider seasons weren't being made anymore in the 90s, it would take until '99-'00 for the series to come roaring back with Kuuga were it hasn't slown down since. They took nearly decade old footage with no room for sequels, same thing happened to Beetleborgs

I have a theory, Super Sentai, Metal Heroes and Kamen Rider were already successful in Brazil before Power Rangers was released, Kamen Rider Black came to Brazil in 1991, so they may have analyzed the Brazilian market that had already accepted the 3 franchises and used it as a case for adaptation. The consequence of this for the Brazilian market is that we stopped receiving these series directly from Japan, since the American company had bought the rights to them in the West. Now with the end of the adaptations they are slowly returning, Kamen Rider Build for example is available in Brazil, and more of them may come, since Ultraman etc. are coming.

So here's something important about that Grasshopper thing. it's not just the manga, in the show, Black and Shadow Moon were originally turned into *Grasshopper Mutants* before being fully evolved into the Rider suits you know them as. There's actually a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in every Black transformation, where for a split second he turns into said Grasshopper Mutant before immediately reshaping into the Black suit. The official name for these mutants in supplementary material is Batta Otoko, or "Hoppermen"

18:42 Fun fact the kid who played the girl in that episode would go on to be a voice actress when she grew up. Her most famous roll is actually the lead in the first installment of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai's sister franchise Precure (think Rider and Sentai but only animated and more girly). In a delicious bit of irony said leads name was Cure Black.

It'd be cool to see a comparison to Kamen Rider Ryuki and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. Ryuki was an incredibly dark season, and dragon knight actually kept a lot of those elements. The lore it creates is just as interesting (and sometimes more interesting) than Ryuki, and it even won an Emmy for the stunts they did for some of the American footage.

I find it interesting how in some ways Dragon Knight is closer than Ryuki to what Kamen Rider usually is. While one could argue Dragon Knight isn't that good a westernization of Ryuki, one could say it's great as a westernization of Kamen Rider in general.

The most interesting thing about Ryuki is that there 3 adaptations of it. The original (Ryuki), the American (Dragon Knight), and a Japanese dub of the American (no, I’m not joking).

My first Kamen Rider series, well it was the first one I watched as a child and it was aired on local television as Kesatria Baja Hitam ( Black Plated Knight). I really literally cried when Battle Hopper was killed.

14:16 Glad to hear that you like the bike action, and I have to bring up something: Kamen Rider feels more like an artefact title once the franchise moves past the 2000s considering a number of factors. Japan's bike laws became tougher to stop the biker gangs with custom bikes that were popping up during the late 80s-early 90s. As a side effect, Kamen Rider couldn't use their bikes as much due to them being restricted with where they could film bike, having to switch to other kinds of vehicles like the car from Black RX or even things like regular bicycles, a jet-ski and a plane. The current era of Rider tends to use vehicles made with CGI to bypass these restrictions, but it's obviously not going to feel as real as the bikes of the old days.

Eh some power Rangers seasons are pretty decent. Besides it's not like Japanese have a perfect track record with Toku, look at how bad late 2010's Sentai seasons were.
