POMODORO TECHNIQUE - My Favorite Tool to Improve Studying and Productivity

The Pomodoro Technique is one of my favorite ways to beat procrastination and maintain productivity and focus. The pomodoro technique utilizes alternating study and break times of 25 and 5 minutes, respectively. Each of these 25 minute bursts of productivity is called a "pomodoro", named after the tomato timer used by Francesco Cirillo in the 1990's.
The increasing popularity and widespread use of the pomodoro technique is no coincidence - it truly works. In this video, I go over
1. Brief history and theory of the Pomodoro Technique
2. How to Use the Pomodoro Technique
3. Distractions
4. When to Use the Pomodoro Technique
5. Modifications to the standard 25/5 Pomodoro scheme

One thing I like about 25 minutes at a time is that no matter how much I want to let myself get distracted or not work a full speed, I know that I really only have to work for a few more minutes so I push myself to pay full attention the whole time.

Based on some productivity research studies I started doing Pomodoro's 52 minutes work, 20 minute break intervals. Which has worked good for me. 25 work did not seem enough as when I get to the 25 min mark I am wormed up and in the zone. At 52 min though I have got a good amount done and my mind is just starting to fatigue.. and 20 min rest is great time to relax or move around, or practice some deep breathing meditation. After 20 min I am fresh and looking forward to the next 52 min of work! :-D

I think 52/20 was found effective for office work where you make a living. If you want learn something on your own like a language or learn to code or skill then 25/5 may be useful. My 2 cents. Whatever makes you happy, you should continue doing
@ITGameplayer
@ITGameplayer 5 жыл бұрын
It has no sense, why 52? The best is 25 5 just to warm up and have a little goal easy to fulfill, after that 40-10, 35-15, so you recovered and you can do another session starting with 35 minutes this time and 7 minutes to pause, 40 10 35 15 (that's the best way, i'm italian like Cirillo, we discussed about the best way); anyway generally you don't do 2 full cycle cause you stop to eat or something else, so do not fap your mind and just do at least one cycle and you'll get 2 hours of productive work done, let's give a try :)

Pomodore technique has been really useful to me! "Productivity" is one of those things I'm absolutely horrible at, but with this technique I've managed to get started. Only, when I started doing pomodore technique, I felt intimidated by the 25 mins. So, I cut it down to 15 mins work and 3 mins break. It worked really well; I got 1 hour of studying in, and it didn't feel overpowering. Gradually, I've been increasing the work time from 15 mins to 16 mins, then 18 mins, and so on. It's definitely a study technique I'm very keen on!

For right learning, I think it's more important to know how to learn and then decide what to learn. This video helped me to know about the "Pomodoro technique", which I will try definitely. Relaxing is as important as working because in this way our body and mind won't be hurt. I especially liked this technique as it can develop our focusing skills and help us to stop procrastinating. If you ask me it's a technique not only for learning but for the life in general. We would focus on our dreams and purposes and work hard for that. We must not procrastinate because we can lose our work and our dreams. We must not also forget about relaxing to be more active and think about why we should do what we do.

I feel like 45 minutes on with 15 min breaks in between work well for me. When I have more extensive problems to complete in my homework, this helps me to not lose focus on the problem half way through. I can complete most to all of the problem, and set myself up for the next one without the timer running out. But granted, I use this for my homework in my Engineering subjects. For less active subjects, the pomodoro method works fine!

There are studies that the human brain can only focus 100% for 20-25 min and needs five minutes break to reset. That’s why school hours are too long, 45 min doesn’t work. Obviously you can still learn something but if you want to maximize the efficiency of your learning, stick to 25

The Pomodoro Technique I what I use to clean my house. I set 30 minutes, clean in one room then switch to another room. I keep a list of the rooms in the house and rotate this way through the different rooms. What I like about it is that I feel less overwhelmed since I am only doing ONE thing and only focusing on that ONE room. Also, this way I cover all the rooms in my house. I don't finish cleaning the room in 30 minutes but I keep moving forward and each time I get back to a room I worked on before I get a bit of a high coming back and seeing the progress I made. By constantly switching rooms I don't get bored!

So when changing the timing scheme: are you supposed to double the times (so that it stays in hours and half-hour slots) - or do you keep adding 25 minutes work and 5 minutes to your liking to lengthen a scheme? Questioning this, because for example: extending from 25 to the 50 min. work & 5 to 10 min. break, is both of the options I described above.. 🤔😥

I just did 3 pomodoros that's 25×3= 75 mins of work. I don't feel mentally fatigued at all. If I had just worked for hour straight, I would've had diminishing returns and lose interest in studying, or feel mentally fatigued. I feel like I can go on for several more pomodoros. And yes it's definitely just a TEMPLATE. start with the 25 min on / 5 min off as a starting point. It works well for me. If you have an Android device, the app I like is called "Pomodoro" (with a red tomato on it). Happy studying :D

I think it is important that the Pomodoro time does not have to be 25 minutes of work. For those who really struggle to commit to 25 minutes you can do 15, 10, 5 minutes instead. Of course lower your breaks as well.

I'm really excited to try this when classes start up this month! Thanks for explaining the method; I'd heard the name pomodoro before but wasn't familiar with what it entailed. This looks like it should be really helpful!

If you love what you do you don't need break every 25 minute. When i am making music i can concentrate for 9 10 hours, when i am doing college studies i can't concentrate more than 10 or 15 minutes.

hey man i wonder....do you have to switch subjects after your 5 min break or do you continue studying the same subject you were studying in your 25 min study period??
@medicalmay7607
@medicalmay7607 5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Lawrence I feel like if you started to get bored with the subject you are currently studying you should switch to another subject using some active learning techniques then switch back to the other subject you were working on. This helps you feel more alert and focused when studying. Good luck on your studies. 👍🏻

I did use a variation in during the time I worked in my MBA and now that I'm about to begin working towards another masters program in Data Analytics, I think this technique will be very useful. Thank you for the app recommendation. I'm going to see if it's available in Google play
