I'm in my junior year of high school and only recently started seriously looking into medical school. I've been hesitant as to whether becoming a sports medicine doctor is worth it or not, but this video shows me that it is what I want to do with my life. Very informative!

if anyone sees this, im a student wanting to ask as many sources as possible the following: 1. would you say it's worth it? 2. what is the scariest part of becoming a doctor, more specifically a surgeon? 3. how do i tell if this is something i'm meant to do? 4. what personality traits make good doctors (more specificall surgeons)? 5. what are some skills i can work on building as a high schooler to help myself later in life? 6. do you truly enjoy what you do? 7. how bad is the debt? i've heard rumors and whatnot, but i'd like to confirm what i've heard. 8. why did you choose to become a doctor? what was the deciding factor? 9. what are some things that helped you stay motivated? what did you tell yourself when you were struggling? i'm just a student, but i cannot see myself doing anything else. i'm in love with surgery and absolutely adore getting to learn about it in class and watch actual footage of the procedures. i would love to be in the OR. i want to be a surgeon, but a surgical assistant is less school and debt, which are two of my primary concerns. if anyone has advice from experience, i'd love to listen. thank you!

instead of the list being entirely pediatric subspecialties, it ended up being predominantly internal medicine and internal med subspecialties!

My goodness, this is complex, heavy stuff, that's why you guys are flooded with doctors from abroad!! In my country, doctors are public servants and government pays for med school. Later, we pay back with service. No debt at all. Also, why is a previous bachelor degree needed? I think that's a ripoff. In my country we go straight from high school to med school, without the unnecessary expenses of a previous degree, not to mention the wasted years 😢

The American healthcare system hodgepodge is a result of realpolitik and how minority special interests use government power and “lobbying” to get gifts for putting their politicians into power. It’s “paying the keys to power.”

No, no you don’t. 70 hour weeks, with years of fellowship where you make Pennies. $300k in crippling debt. The only time you look “cool” is when the wife you forgot you had mentions that you are a doctor at church to other people.

What I gathered is that depending on who does a study, they get what they look for. We have a horrible problem with finding valid studies. When I worked for Morton Salt, whenever a salt study came out that was bad, we sponsored a study that showed salt in moderation is good. See... Don't trust doctors, don't trust studies. MODERATION is the key. I am not saying moderation in cocaine, I am saying moderation in the "normal" common sense things of life and you will be FINE!

Funny how the video mentions "only" 40% of applicants get in. That's ridiculously high percentage compared to here in Finland where it's about 5% or even less of applicants :D

Then basing affirmative action on race rather than socio-economic class tells me that whoever came up with AA believes in inherited differences between ethnic groups.

The biggest change in my thoughts of a specialty actually started during my medical clerkship (the final year). Because that is when you actually see patient cases, how to interact with them and how the overall work environment will be like. Now I feel like I need to put a lot more thought before choosing a specialty bcz it's not just about your aspiration but what actually would SUIT you. Even as doctors, we all deserve to be happy while serving our patients and I think it's still ok for us to prioritize ourselves especially when we're down the drain. I do think working with a constant work schedule works the best for me. I thought I might choose pediatrics, but now I feel like I need to put a lot more thought into that one. But I might be exaggerating bcz seeing things from an intern point of view will always be worse than when you actually become a doctor. Anyways, I'm hoping for the best for myself. And I wish the best for others aspiring to become doctors.

In the middle of my M1 year and Im 100% lifestyle for my Residency. Worked long hard hours in the Army for years, early mornings and late nights for 1/10th the compensation. Making $100K a year after taxes would be more money than I ever made in my best years. The fact that I can Clear $200K after taxes fairly easily with almost any Residency is just gravy to me. Debts are manageable when you control your borrowing during education and spending after Residency. Life is Good and Im gonna make it no matter what I choose but im thinking about dinner with my family every night over making the big $$$$$

Hey DOC, why don’t you be realistic here people don’t have any way of actually becoming doctors just from the sound of all these videos all my schools do is just use this as a game plain and simple they throw through unnecessary loose that are really not necessary they expect you to pay out the notes for it when they know they don’t have that kind of money quite frankly, they make it unnecessarily complicated to become doctors and then people wonder why there is a low amount of doctors in this country and I can tell you exactly the reason why it’s because schools just make it impossible and they make it completely unrealistic to become a doctor and quite frankly that’s more than enough for a lawsuit right there because that’s just false advertisement and false impressions Anything all these medical schools should be sued for what they do and community college just for even encouraging it to is the same with the dental hygienist to
