This is just another great source of information from your channel. I really appreciate it I do have a question and that is and that is there a way to see the county landings per month
@PompanoBrownie3 жыл бұрын
Great question Tom! And by the way.. that first report I ran was "Months" not "Area" as I said in the video. The only reason I spotted my verbal mistake was doing homework for you. To answer your question, I don't see a way to get the County Landings per month. That would be a super valuable query if it was possible. That would tell us more about the migration density of Pompano per county in a given month. Maybe you should call Florida Fish and Wildlife and request it! We can call it the O"Brien Report! There number is (850) 488-4676

@@PompanoBrownie I reached out to the FWC , They were very nice. They didn't have a way to change it. But were hesitant to even give me my county's monthly stats, They said there was a possible privacy issue. I asked if they could give me my county and the small county to the south (Indian River County). He said that would work. The next day he sent me a PDF with the monthly info for Brevard and Indian River Counties. Very interesting. Wish I could have gotten them to change the website. If tyou need the contact person for this just let me know. Thanks again for all your great videos.

I know for a fact that some (not all) commercial pompano fisherman will freeze there fish until they get enough to make a good haul. Then they will let them thaw and drive them to a fish house that is paying more. I know this because I have been told 1st hand from commercial fishermen. I live in vero beach myself. I find that any time after the first real good cold front thru december is prime pompano time. And in the spring when they start there migration back north is the 2nd best time. Great video as always I enjoy learning from you.
@PompanoBrownie3 жыл бұрын
Cory, I personally would never do that. If they see cloudy eyes they will temp probe your fish and give you the boot from their fish house if they are too cold. I know of one old timer who got caught. Thank you for your input. Brownie

All the SW Florida counties are getting the bulk of their Pompano tonnage from gill netters fishing the PEZ. It's the only area that allows gill netting for Pomps, the long run is worth it due to the high yield and higher prices at the northen most fish houses. Also if they were all based out of Everglades city, the price would be crap at the market. On the east coast the Palm beach hook and line fleet out of Jupiter mainly fish in Martin county.

Thanks for telling us how to find that info. BTW. Orange Beach is in Ala. Fish it all the time, there and Gulf Shores. Rec limit is only 3 fish in Ala. I live in Manatee County, seems like most of our pomps are on jigs. I do bait fish here but do better bait fishing on east coast and northern gulf

Thank you... Question: if commercial fisherman are picking up all these pompano, would it make more sense to fish a lesser reported county that may not have as many commercial fisherman? Just wondering.
@PompanoBrownie3 жыл бұрын
Good question Pat, in my opinion the schools of Pompano are much larger than the commercial fisherman chasing them.

You didn't mention too many spots on the west coast. Do Pompano run in a southern direction or northern, or both?
@PompanoBrownie2 жыл бұрын
Cal, all of the counties I mentioned were derived from the myFWC site and based on commercial Pompano landings for the entire state of Florida. I really don’t know if pompano run north and south or just move out to deeper water when the water becomes too hot. We would have to ask a pompano to know for sure.. lol Many say it’s a southern migration in the fall and a northern migration in the spring.

Brownie, I’m starting to fish in the Sarasota to Fort Meyers west side of the state. Salt water is new to me. My local bait shop leads me to believe that the Pomp quit running after March on the west side . Do you catch Pompano all year long on the East side?
@PompanoBrownie3 жыл бұрын
Alois, if you are fishing from the beach your best months are from December through April. Fisherman with boats catch them all year long fishing the intercoastal on the East Coast. You would have to check out if you have any intercoastal areas that provide the same results if you have a boat. Hope this helps.

Alois, make sure you use wheeleez tires. They are more durable than the orange ones and the gray ones on Amazon are not soft at all and misleading. All you need is about 2 to 3 pounds of air pressure and you were good to go for smooth sailing through the sand.
@Huy00353 жыл бұрын
Im in Vero Beach, east coast side. Pomps can be caught year round here. But, they are just hard to find in the summer months. I just had 1 2 weeks ago, mid august. Definently the best time is when they are migrating.

Korey, I went to the "MYFWC" website, and it still works. Maybe it was a temporary website outage. Here is the link to the Commercial Landings page. app.myfwc.com/FWRI/PFDM/ReportCreator.aspx I also added it to the "Info Section" of the video.

sea weed came in around the first of may last year and shut down the season in saint lucie...a lot of guys did not have a good year. I wonder if these reports are from netters off shore, not beach fishermen.
@PompanoBrownie3 жыл бұрын
Cape, the reports are from all sales which are mostly boats. Gill nets can no longer be used in Florida for Pompano, but Cast nets are legal. Regardless of how the Pompano are caught, the stats at least show us where they are plentiful.
