Considering the price of taped and recorders it's surprising someone chose to do this . Brings back a few memories , especially of the Fratton end - much better than today's , sadly a lesson in the evolution of concrete construction - this game was a real kick in the teeth looking forward to a replay at the Dell - when Armstrong put the ball past Alan Knight who crashed into the post . One of the very few times the teams were pretty evenly matched . The atmosphere was unforgettable .

It was Steve Moran who scored, from Armstrong's cross. We were just leaving to beat the traffic when that went it, gutted! Never seen Fratton Park so packed. Remember Mark Dennis getting coined too.

I remember as a schoolboy in the 1980's getting to FP at 1:30 in order to grab a place on the old Fratton End wall half way up the terrace. The singing used to start about 1 hr before kick off and was part of the entertainment in the pre-match build up. Not the same these days with all seater stadia - turn up 10 mins b4 kick-off. Still, I am now in a position to donate my £1000 and look forward in playing my part in re-building the club.

pompstar1 Yes, I used to get on the North Terrace and find my spot on the halfway line when the gates opened at 1.30pm in the mid 1980s when I was a teenager. The pre-match build-up was all part of it: watching the players warm up, watching the ground fill up, reading the programme. I remember a half-time police dog obstacle course display once, and the occasional band. All that part of the matchday experience ended when the terraces went.

Георгий Павлов The song is Play up Pompey. Based on the Westminster chimes. The most famous Pompey song. Over 100 years old. Fans still sing it today.
