@DarthMaui3 жыл бұрын
I don't know. When the bass overplays on the verses I want to turn this off. And the POP POP versus Cardigans single hit and walk from the third, the charm gets lost. And the Rhodes piano makes me think smooth jazz or Grover Washington Jr. or ... Looking Glass - you know, "Brandy, such a fine girl"... . This is a bass player showing off while simultaneously missing pretty important elements of the original. for the sake of showing off chops, takes away from the whole performance. It just doesn't groove. The original bass line makes this: The syncopation with the keyboard and drums on those strong POP POPs, and the bass just hits the first note of that and walks to 3, then 4. It works really really well. And in this one the guitar player is nowhere to be found to hit the verse melody line during that transition, "So I cry, and I beg..." Ack! And then the definite smooth jazz swank down at the end. Stab me dead, just awful. Obviously great musicians, but I think some arrangement decisions were really bad ideas. The original song is literally one of the best songs ever. And a big part of that is that unique shipwrecked nautical keyboard tone, the fuzz guitar counterpart to the vocal melody in transition, the beautiful clean guitar harmonics that sound like a harp. Clearly people love this version, and I am completely WRONG. But the bass line is way off. Pull it back, stop overplaying, lay in the pocket, use that beautiful staggered walk that the Cardigans used, let the keyboard and drums hit it together, it's like the whole band is hitting the melody, and it is painful. It sounds dumb when everybody hits those strong notes together without the walk. And, sorry for being a critical jerk. Most of their tunes and interpretations are pretty darn good. Not saying anything about the chops, but give the bass player a chill pill and play him the original.
