I bought some blackberries in a big pot from Lowe's a few years ago. I set the pot out where I was going to plant it, but never got around to putting it in the ground. When I went to mow, I moved the pot and noticed that some of the roots were going into the ground. I have since kept moving the pot down the row and now have a nice row of blackberries as well as the original pot I started with.

I really don’t know. I can’t sell them because they are patented. Check your local nursery and see if they have some. Bare root should not be too expensive… Maybe five dollars each. But I have not bought any for a long time. They could be much higher than that now.

I just planted 18 bare root Poncas. With a good straw mulch, how often do I need to water these things at the beginning? I’m running drip irrigation. Keep the great content coming!
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 3 жыл бұрын
If you're in sandy soil you can water more often.. it will drain well. If you're in clay (like me) maybe 2 times a week. BUT... it depends on climate. In TX when it's hot 2 or 3 times a week (for an hour or so) is plenty, but might be too much in the wet spring or fall. Young blackberry plants don't need to dry out, but they don't need to drown either. Not sure that helped or not, but just use common sense :)

So, I've emailed Bob Wells Nursery but haven't heard back. Should I keep these new plants inside near a window so they can get sun until the risk of frost is reduced here in DFW?
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 3 жыл бұрын
@@RESlusher In my experience, frost won't hurt them. Remember... BW Nursery has them all laid out in the yard. Nursery's (at least around here) don't protect their plants in the winter unless they are tropical. Up north it might be different. So... if it were me... I would put them outside. You want them to remain dormant till it starts to warm up. Inside the hours might wake them up before their time. I have mine in their pots under a tree. Now.. If you got bare root from the nursery... it's a different subject. They will need to be kept moist, so I would suggest you go ahead and plant them or put them in pots. I think it's fine to pot now or to plant now.

Are the Poncas a primacane?
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 3 жыл бұрын
I wish I could tell you for sure I read everything I could find on them and nothing said they were Primocanes. So, I don't think they are. They DO have a characteristic that is interesting... They will produce flowers and berries... then... a few weeks later the same canes will produce a 2nd crop on the same plant and canes. So.. it's kinda like having Primos, but not exactly. My experience with Primos is that they don't produce enough of a "fall/everbearing" crop to really matter. So I don't mind that these are not primocanes. I'll be discussing that in coming videos. Hope that answers your question

TP2, Love all of your videos!!! I check you out all the time. I follow Mr. Clark of the Arkansas Extension closely. I think they are the best! I, also was curios about the Poncas and had to have some! purchased 5 from one of the well known online nurseries. they were plugs and are just beginning to grow. I can't wait to taste them! when Mr. Clark gets that excited about a variety, it has to be special. I am in Florida, zone 10b. I think I was sold when he stated on his video that customers ask for the Poncas by name at the green markets, I knew they would be a winner. Love the truck.
