Roaches turn up in a Brownsville Chinese food restaurant as well as a San Benito McDonald's, but it's a worker who's busted mopping and turning tortillas at Poncho's in McAllen that's most alarming on a health inspection report.
This type of multi-tasking is considered a hygiene health hazard, according to the inspector.
Poncho's is located on 601 Expressway 83 in McAllen.
A kitchen cop found 21 demerits during a check-up spawned by a complaint.
Food items were found on the floor and a live roach on the wall, according to the report.
The restaurant's marketing director, Jorge Escobedo, found some of the violations hard to believe.
"When we hear that an employee was mopping and flipping tortillas, as stated on the report by the health inspector, that concerns us," Action 4's Ryan Wolf said.
"I think that information is not true," Escobedo said. "I don't think it's real."
He told the Food Patrol that he would check with staff to ensure proper practices are taking place.
Escobedo says Poncho's continues to expand in Hidalgo County because they are doing things right.
