**Pattern Notes**
If you have tight tension or want to start with a larger foundation:
Use a size 6.50 mm hook (US K or 10.5) and CH 72. Join to make a ring.
R1: (ch 3, 2 dc) in the same ch, dc into the next 17 chs, *(3 dc into the next ch), dc into the next 17 chs*. Repeat for Row 1. Continue with the tutorial for Row 2 and beyond :)

I finally got enough yarn off my color choices for this & I'd love to start crocheting the white striped one, but am not sure if after I chain up the 56 chains, should I slip stitch & end it there for the one white stripe at the very top before continuing? Thank you for another wonderful easy pattern and the additional notes you provided to make it bigger which I needed. I am making mine with Lion Brand pound of love in hunter green with a j hook and the ch 72 was perfect for me with my yarn and hook size. Just make sure you have a chain divisible by 4 and that it goes comfortably around her neck while taking into consideration that the weight of the poncho itself will make the neck opening larger once finished and worn. Baby and toddler ponchos are sooo cute 💜💛💜 my daughter had one as well as a long crocheted cardigan some 38 years ago when she was that age 💜. Happy crocheting 💙

Hi Louise, Janis has an excellent tip :) You can also use the children's directions in our tutorial and then just add as many rows as you like until it's a length that you feel suits her :)

Hi Deb, you can use any foundation chain that is a multiple of 4. Remember that the 4 point chains should be evenly spaced by the same number of chains along each side :)
