@ThunderStruck16372 жыл бұрын
Also, I'm curious -- do you like Sorum's drumming for these Appetite tunes? Matt is technically a great drummer but honestly, I never liked his drumming for Appetite songs,. Steven had and has amazing flow -- you listen to Live at the Ritz and I'm like -- YEAH, this is the only real Guns drummer for me. You listen to the Tokyo stuff, there's nothing wrong with Sorum's drumming, technically better than Steven but Steven Adler had something, I can't stand to listen to these songs with Sorum's drumming, it somehow doesn't have the flow that Steven has/had for me, curious if you agree. It was so flow, simple, powerful and natural, just effortless.
@MartinBellamyMBDrums2 жыл бұрын
The way you articulated the wording in that last comment was bang on! Sorum is no doubt a fantastic Rock drummer, but I feel like Adler had a unique swing and groove to his playing that brought an energy to Appetite that hasn't been there since.

GNR is sooo good for learning feel and power behind the kit. Steven Adler is such a fun drummer to listen to and watch. Tons of simple and effective beats! And thank you! It probably came from years of trying to keep up with Marshal half stacks lol!

Also, once you have mics, you need an interface which plugs into a computer or laptop. I use presonus, but there's plenty other good options out there. Them you'll need a recording software. I used garage band for this specific track. But mainly use Logic now. There are so many out there, just choose what one you like best. Tons of great free software. THEN, simply put the mp3 audio file into the recording session, count it in and you're good to go! Don't forget to hit record lol Let me know if you have any other questions. That bell sound is perfect. Goddamn Adler has a groove that very few other rock drummers have, let alone his replacements in GNR. I don't care how technically gifted one is supposed to be, they all suck as far as early songs are concerned.
@MartinBellamyMBDrums2 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you!! I tried to match his sound as close as possible for this one! Its a Sabian HHX Groove Ride, a little more washy, but still with a bell that cuts. I fully agree with you, he didn't overplay anything. But instead brought a raw "Bare Bones" energy to the group. Sorum is great, but not the same swing and groove as Adler
@hugolafhugolaf2 жыл бұрын
@@MartinBellamyMBDrums Meh, Sorum sounded like a robot on the Illusions album. I'm sure it has to do with production to some extent, but still. Adler was 1/5 of the band but 40% of the sound IMHO. He gave us more cowbell before it even was a thing. Seeing him play Rocket Queen on that vid from Soultone cymbals is amazing. So effortless, so groovy, but mostly, so perfectly fitting for the song. You really did him justice man, and that's no small feat. I'll take a groovy drummer over a technical wizard any day of the week. That's why Purdie is on thousands of tracks.
