Can you explain what the benefit of the die does besides making the water blue. The one that binds the phosphate… can you explain it more?
@ryanhoelke Жыл бұрын
This is what the product information says: Water Column Clarifier is a high performance liquid bacterial blend that fixates nitrogen and phosphorus to clarify water. This product contains a synchronistic blend of 12 different bacteria with a higher growth rate than any dry blend. Because these bacteria work together so well, they do not limit bacterial growth and are able to coat the entire water body. This makes Water Column Clarifier an especially good treatment to minimize the growth of planktonic algae as it treats the whole water body.

If you can see a white disc that is deeper than 18" below the surface, you need more dye to prevent algae.

Dumb idea maybe.... if space permits... What about cutting a small shallow wandering creek that opens into another mini pond... Into that wooded area? I'm sure the roots would be a pain to work around... The thought is for increased safe haven for breeding fish, increased wildlife, maybe more crayfish and things... Just a thought...
@ryanhoelke4 ай бұрын
I was just looking at that area. I should have really made the pond larger that way. Maybe some day....

The pond dye was called Oasis Pond Dye WSP and the water column Clarifier is called just that. Do you have to weight your trees down to get them to sink to the bottom?
@ryanhoelke Жыл бұрын
In the video I'm working on now, I tied half of a cinder block to the Christmas tree, and it sunk it nicely. In the past, I just threw the trees in, and they floated all summer, but by fall they were wet enough to sink.

Thank you. I just built a small 1/8 acre pond twelve feet deep. I really enjoy your videos on the pond. Right now I have a huge mud puddle. As soon as I finished we received three inches of rain and it filled up in two days. I’m looking forward to any color than brown 😂 again thank you for making these videos!
@ryanhoelke Жыл бұрын
@@rickie178 it will take a while to clear. Try and get some grass growing around the pond so when water does go in, it doesn't take the soil with it.

I have a 3 acre pond that would get tons of Aglae around the edges and tons of duckweed. we had a huge rain and I ended up getting two carp that came down a creek into my pond and I have never had algae or duckweed since. I feed them daily to supplement their diet so they don't eat any resources that the bass need.
@ryanhoelke Жыл бұрын
I may look into that. I've read about grass carp, but I'm pretty sure they're not common or even legal up here.

That is not enough aeration. You added like 6 ft of linear surface area to the pond with those bubbles and your pond is like a half acre or more. I would install two giant bubblers on both sides of the pond. So much bubbles that you get some nice rippling at the shore. Also, plant a lot more plants that you can cut and use as mulch around the yard. Something that takes up the nutrients, then when you cut it down for mulch, you remove that nutrients from the pond system. Also, your yard drains towards to pond. Anything uphill should run into the wetlands before hitting the main water body.

Pond dye... Such an American thing to do! 😂 Nice effect, but won't therapy the cause. Same for this clarifier stuff. Sure, they said it helps and they will keep selling it to you if you don't change anything in your pond. With this rain water flooding sediments in your pond, you got a load of minerals and nitrate into the water. In short, you dumped a ton of fertilizer in your pond. But when you look at the pond, there is nothing which might use the good stuff other than the algae. No plants rival for it. Happy algea! Add water lilies and other underwater plants which carpet the bare graven of your pond which will use up most of the nitrate and minerals the algae had all for itself before. When this plants got established, you will see a boost in your water quality, because this water is alive and balanced! Nice to look at and a healthy ecosystem. You might even find the pond developing a balanced fauna to feed your fish.
@justadbeer Жыл бұрын
Water lilies (or lily pads as we call them) will quickly take over your pond and be detrimental to other plants and and fish by reducing the oxygen. You will find yourself in an entirely new battle trying to control them. I use black dye in my pond as it blocks more sunlight then the blues or aqua and gives the pond a mirror look, reflecting the images of the trees surrounding the pond. The beneficial bacteria, along with aeration, will help remove the muck buildup on the bottom. Unfortunately, nothing I know of will get rid of duckweed and algae other than grass carp, which are banned in many states. I spray an aquacide and manually remove duckweed when dead.

I lost my dog because of an aerator like this He fell in the initial hole that the aerator made and couldn't get out because of the slippery ice and drowned. I was not at home at the time to save him. Be extremely cautious if you don't want to kill any domesticated or wild animal.
@ryanhoelke Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I could see how that could possibly happen. We pull the solar panel in early winter to shut off the aerator so that we can skate on the ice.
