As a biology teacher who has loved to take my students on "Microsafaris" over the decades (with many of the videos posted here on my KZbin channel) I am so excited to see this series come to life! Kudos to Sally & AMNH on helping to introduce so many more folks to the joys of microscopic exploration! PS - as a native born NYCer - I love that the samples are taken in Central Park!

Kind of amazing what tech has brought to us. I was a bio major back in the early 70's. A lot of change. Thanks for an interesting video.

I’m an electronic musician and park ranger in NYC and in addition to the educational excellence of these videos I am obsessed with the music in them. This is the best use synesthesia in scoring I have ever found, and it really increased my empathy for the microorganisms on screen. Props to the composer, please keep making more of these videos!

Thank you for bring back memories of pond water from Prospect Park in Brooklyn when a dear friend and I were 14 years old. She had a beautiful Spenser microscope.We grew many kinds of protozoa including paramecia, amoebae, Stentor and Euplotis. We made permanent sides, one of which I had until a few years. I am just about 90 years old now. Those are the happiest days of my life. Thank you so muchI. Irwin M Weisbrot. MD

I just googled Irwin M Weisbrot, and he only died 2 months ago on the 4th of august, 2024. He lived an extremely accomplished and dedicated life. He made it to 95! RIP Irwin.

Some people are asking in the comments about the field microscope. It is a Newton NM1, about £399-£550, although it is discontinued and hard to find outside of the UK. They're pretty reliable, if you find a previously owned one, snatch it up. You can find the same thing in the Em Microscopes line of EM1 Field scopes.
@davidlogiudice5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up William. Doesn’t seem like the EM1 is for sale yet but nice to know something similar may be available. :)

Awesome video, and great music! If i get reincarnated I now want to come back as a microbe. Instead of a panda bear. Though I suppose this may further contribute to the decline of a large mammal species. I will think further on this issue before making my final choice. Anyway. As you can see your series is inspiring and thought provoking.

Everything in this video is unique of a sort and beautiful, the instruments, the video editing, the way of presentation, the music, and of course the microorganisms, ... Especially, they are the little creatures that make most organisms possible including Homo sapiens! To some degree it's unbelievable.

😳 Excellent presentation, well paced with very stimulating information. The location shown is most attractive. Unfortunately, the reference to ‘pond scum’ or sometimes ‘pond slime’ elsewhere do not give this ecosystem a positive status in most people’s imagination. Language matters, wherever it is applied.
