Folks in the comments are so weird. It's like, if an artist picks out "easy" or "common" records, then everyone's saying their taste is too boring or plain. But if an artist picks out more obscure or underground stuff, then they're "hipsters who don't listen to mainstream music." Why can't they just pick out stuff they like and everyone be happy?
@juanfierronunez80755 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100% percent! I have a lot of friends like that. They'll come over and I put my music on random, something like Sun Ra comes on and they say I'm pretentious, then if something like Ghost comes on they call me an FM friendly square. You can't please anyone anymore.
@Junior131135 жыл бұрын
@Gregory Frowendown People can tell when you're faking buying the records of artists you like? Hope I don't run into those people when I'm record shopping.
@Junior131135 жыл бұрын
@@juanfierronunez8075 Darn shame, I know. Sun Ra is amazing. I really think it's just a matter of them being overly concious of their own tastes. They're afraid other people will say their music taste sucks, so they say it to other people to feel superior. Just enjoy what you like. That's all there is to it. Liking obscure artists doesn't make you a hipster. It just means you're more open.
@cjaquilino Жыл бұрын
I watch these things (and suspect most folks do) partly because I wanna know what cool/interesting tastes an artist I like has. Not just to hear them list off the works of artists everyone knows (or likes) already. And yet, let's not BS, artists (like all people) often put on airs and some try to give off an image of being into hyper obscure quirky stuff, so people will call that out when they perceive that vibe. Now I'm not saying the comment section's head ain't up it's own backside about that sometimes. But I don't think the push and pull of that dichotomy here is any mystery. The audience for this channel is all musicheads, this isn't a shallow mainstream press interview. You can (and I’d say, should) be more revealing of your tastes than just saying "Phil Collins" or whatever because there’s a reasonable expectation you do. And I feel like people aren't wrong (or entitled) for maybe expecting more than that. Best analogy I can think of is online dating profiles. You can come off as shallow if you say you “like all genres” even if that’s technically true, because it’s unrevealing. And yet if you just list off hyper obscure bands you can come off as pretentious and trying hard. And the thing is, this isn’t just artists picking out records they like, it’s also an interview and promotional segment for them. I don’t think it’s too cynical to think artists don’t try to create a mystique around themselves or crazy to say that they make aspirational purchases, just like the rest of us.
