I took a solo jump class on my 18th birthday (youngest you're allowed to do it). We jumped using a static line (attached to the airplane), so there was no freefall, and our chutes opened right away. It was an amazing experience and one I could not continue due to funds, but I will have the memories of doing it. Working up the courage to jump out of the plane is a real thing. One of the folks that I did it with could not jump the first time, so they had to circle around for him to try again.
