Same. Generally speaking for everyday use, I prefer cloth too. The seats are pretty nice, and don't have to worry about the temp of the leather on hot or cold days

I have black cloth seats in my 06 GXP. Why OG owner cheaped out on some of the upgrades, beats me. But I prefer leather seats. I’m beginning my search at local junkyards for black leather. If I could find gray leather I’ll use those instead for a two tone look with the roof being gray. I know another GXP turning up in a junkyard near me is very unlikely. It’s tough finding good leather Grand Prix seats when the junkyard leaves all the doors open to the elements. But I must find my black leather or atleast gray in good condition. My GXP also doesn’t have a folding passenger seat. Thinking I bought the wrong GXP to begin with but I love a project nonetheless.

That's...interesting. why get the top model GP and put the base model seats in? That's crazy. I'm with you...hope you find a good set of seats. It's hard already as it is in the junkyard, and with these cars being rarer and rarer these days, it's even harder now. Hope you find a good set. Definitely a great project car. .I should know lol. I'll never get rid of my GP

@@NexusAuto isn’t it tho ? no sunroof, no center stage speaker in dash, no monsoon system. You mean to tell me you didn’t want to spend an extra couple grand? It’s whatever though. I always tell people I have a Base GP with body kit and 5.3. Surprised it has the HUD

@jomelfludd8217 for real! I don't think I've seen a GXP specd like that! I think the monsoon system was a no cost option too! Lol. That's crazy...you really do have a base model with a V8 swap lol. Good news with that, is you can build it up how you want. Finding the parts...now that's a different story though!

Good video hate leather seats. My cloth seats in 06 still in perfect condition. Don't have to worry bout cracks and fading with leather

I agree. And I hate the weather aspect...too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. The contradiction is that I installed leather seats in my car, just to 'upgrade' 😂. I'll never understand the obsession with leather as an upgrade to a car.

Hello. Thank you for your videos they are great! Quick question. I am doing a swap of power front driver seat in 2005 Grand Prix. However the seat is an upgraded power seat.. the current cloth seat does not have power lumber but the exchange leather seat we are getting does. Will this be able to be installed? We really just need the motor for our cloth seat. Could we just exchange the motor even though the original seat does not have the upgrade? I just need my seat to work! Both are 2005 Grand Prix.

Hello, thanks for watching! For the first part of the question, if you were just swapping out the seats from the power cloth to the power leather with lumbar, it would work with no issues. My 2005 GP had cloth manual seats, but it turns out GM runs the full power seat supply there and when I installed the leather seats, I had full power and lumbar support. For the second part of the question, the motors look to be the same part number, so if you decide to forget the leather and lumbar, you should be able to just swap the motors around, or any other parts for that matter. For example, lets say the switch itself was bad, you should be able to interchange them. Hope this helps

Yep they are. I had a 2005 base model with cloth seats, and have installed the 2006 GTP leather seats and GXP leather/suede seats on my car with no issues.

I appreciate your Grand Prix videos! I have a 2008 base model. Have you dealt with (not sure if it is a feature on your model) a passenger seat air bag sensor? Also, I have had my turn signal switch replaced and they put in the one that includes the fog lamp switch on it. My car did not come equipped with fog lamps but the dash acts like I do when I flip that switch (the indicator light comes on on the dash). My car obviously doesn’t have the fog lamps installed on it but I’m wondering if it would work if I did a swap out?

No problem at all, glad to hear these videos are worth it. What question did you have about the passenger side air bag sensor? For the fog lights, it is possible, but you need new housings that have both the turn signal and fog light (if you are going for the factory look) and you also need to get the wire harness that goes from the lighting harness to the fog lights. They are a bit hard to come by these days, but it's possible to find them, may a junkyard or ebay. Then it should work, if I remember correctly

@@NexusAuto Thanks! My passenger airbag sensor has gone goofy and likes to sense that a passenger is there when one isn’t. Thankfully it still works reliably when a passenger is present and turns on the air bag for that side. But when no one is there, it’ll ding at me periodically because the imaginary passenger isn’t wearing their seatbelt. Minor annoyance and I’m suspecting the fix isn’t super easy. I already know the replacement part isn’t cheap but I was wondering if the replacing was something I could do or if it would be a lengthy labor cost at the mechanic.

I also meant to ask if it is possible to source/replace/redo the decals on the door interior where the lock and window buttons are - the images that show which button does what. I’ve managed to wear mine down over the years to where they don’t look good anymore. I’ve done a couple searches for them but maybe I’m not looking in the right places. I’m sorry to throw so many questions at you! I appreciate your time and effort and thank you very much!

@@cosievee It all depends on what the problem is, There is multiple things that can go wrong to cause the passenger air bag to malfunction. Some of it is fixable on your own for sure, but some of it needs to be fixed by a mechanic and can be costly. So, either-or lol. A good starting point is to get the car scanned. But there are 2 main types of scanners out there. There are ones that just check the Check Engine Light, and then there are ones that can scan the whole car. You will need the latter (or a shop that has the latter). They can scan the car and many times (but not always) there will be an error associated to the Passenger Air Bag. This can happen even if there is no check engine light displayed. If you get the car scanned, it may be able to direct you to what the error is, then you can see if it is something you can fix.

@@cosievee If there are any decals, specific to the Grand Prix, unfortunately, I have not seen them. However, the switches are more or less interchangeable. So, you can find them on places like eBay, or if you are lucky enough to have a junkyard near by, you may be able to get it there. As long as the button layout is the same, it should not matter which year from 2004-2008. I have seen ones in the past in excellent condition at a local junkyard to me.
