I wish this was my grandpa. Imagine growing up and going to grandma and Grandpa's house like this dudes, and sneaking out in his garage and digging around with your little cousins looking at all his cool ass antique shit. My great grandma was an old pottery ceramics teacher and me and my brother when we were younger would sneak out into her garage, which she created into a ceramics shop and she had an old ass kiln in there and literally thousands of old antique ceramic molds and thousands of ceramics she made that she hadn't painted, she just had them waiting to be painted. And a lot of them are ones so many older people had in their homes across America. She has that ceramic Christmas tree that you used to put the little plastic candles in the branches and it had a lamp inside that lit up all the little plastic candles. My great grandma made that tree and she had the molds for it and had hundreds of them in her garage waiting to paint and sell. I miss having an older relative like this around that was really cool. I thought my great grandma was the coolest person I ever knew from all the cool stuff she had in her home I remember looking through Everytime we went over there for holidays and parties and stuff growing up.

Bore on the pontiac pistons is 4.151, so "bored a little" is about .025 over. 340 crank has a stroke of 3.31 inches, down from the stock 3.75 in the chevy 400. I can see how the pistons, rods, and crank can be made to go into a Chevy block; the bore spacing is only .04 different. My question, is the timing set, harmonic balancer, and a flywheel/flexplate. A 340 uses a huge crank snout compared to a Chevy small block, so definitely something custom for a timing cover, unless they turned down the crank snout. Which given how large of a crank bolt a Mopar uses, may not be possible. The timing chain would probably have to be custom, but that's not too big of a deal. A small block Mopar has the starter ring gear on the torque converter, and even if a manual with a flywheel, it's not a 168 or 153 tooth like a Chevy, so I guess that would also have to be custom made to work with a Chevy starter and transmission.

I just watched an interesting ,hour long video, of a "river boat racing" team, that built LS platform, 4.8L , destroked them , sleeved them down to ti a 3.something litre, with a bit of crank work to change stroke, and were also running twin turbo chargers, and a centrifugal oil sump that spun the oil down to get rid of froth, so it could run upside down..... They were dynoing these engines at 11,000 rpm or something crazy, for HOURS......all it takes is men with minds like these, that CRAVE reliable power. Haha ✌️

Yes there's a lot of figuring out to drop a 340 crank in a GM block the thrust journal is in the center of the Mopar crank and it's a 3in. diameter thrust journal with all of that work I would have welded up a steel 350 crank and make any stroke I wanted if nothing was available that 340 crank will need a thrust journal made up at the rear journal and the front crank snout is pretty massive so is the balancer bolt it would have to be turned down to standard GM balancer diameter on the snout, that crank will need to be balanced and stroke indexing also rod journal size will need to be corrected by then you'll have hours of fun making it work hope you won lots of money for the time you spent making that crank work, the Pontiac pistons are close to small block Chevy pistons with some fly cutting you will need custom rods because the Pontiac piston pins are slightly bigger than the SBC .927 pin and I'm assuming that you chose a Chevy size journal because the Mopar journal is much bigger as well. That 340 crank is a stout piece and they are very heavy hopefully you weren't looking to get high rpm from that crank they're very heavy

@@BarryTsGarage one other thing that I needed to point out is for him to use Pontiac pistons for a 455 they use .980 diameter pins and Mopar 340 small blocks use .990 pins like a big block Chevy so he would have had to bronze bush the small end of the 340 rod to .980 and those rods are pretty stout good for durability but can't say too much for rotating weight unless he used aluminum rods and the mopar crank is externally balanced so he had to get busy drilling that crank to internally balance it, like I said I hope they won lots of races making that crank work in a chevy block I know that it took lots of work!

The bore centers for a small block chevy is 4.4. The dodge is 4.46. Plus the thrust is in the center on the dodge and in the back on a chevy. .I don't think that would work, then again I guess where there's a will there's a way

I've honestly got a 71 340 Duster and a 1970 340 for it and I dont even know....but I'm sure other Mopar absolutists will let you know as you see....someone stole my wedge heads from my dad's old shop so i decided to postpone the build until I decide what I will be doing for the engine.

Im one who mentioned speedway motors sell everything to build a flat head ford V8 except the engine block ... I have been partially watching the progress of 3D printers that now print metal parts ready to use . that now are affordable ...but I seen one lately printing a metal V8 block that cost $5000 to buy the 3D printer ready to go ...what would you give for a brand new 32 ford flat head block made from powered iron steel or aluminum ? YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE LEFT ALIVE THAT CAN DO THIS AND MAKE IT SUCCESSFUL FIRST TIME..Think about all those mods still trapped in the back of your mind to a flat head ford that in its day would not have been cost effective ...but today I believe you can ..Zora Arkus-Duntov who saved the corvette built flat head ford blocks into OHV hemis with a blower that would blow the bottom end to junk ... But in around 1992 a team racing the land speed record at Bonneville used a four bolt center main cap custom fit for the ford flat head with ARDON OHV HEMI cylinder heads ...screw all the ohv supercharger mods ...im looking at the heavy duty center main cap with all your ideas built in to a new flat head ford V8 the can finally use all the old mods offenhauser still makes ..you said in a comment to me "sounds like a business" you would be swamped supplying speedway as for the 1st time ever they could sell complete engines brand new flat head ford V8 that would be reliable with acceptable power ..what do you see these days at a vintage car show ? About everything but with the same 350 Chevy crate motor of 250hp and a pair of chrome valve covers made it china ...how about a guy with a 32 ford hiboy and all he has to do is bolt in your block at is 3D printed to bolt up to a SBC bell housing and exhaust headers cause your 3D printed block will have Siamese center exhaust ports so now it becomes a no brainier swap with the same hp. Or maybe a little more . add three stromberg 97 throttle body look alike EFI and get great gas mileage for an every day grocery gitter ...i can go on forever ..trouble is im 74 and they tell me I wont live for ever ..this will be our last blast old man ...lets hit a home run

Yes drove 74 pontiac bonneville that had a 455 pontiac. Not the 455 oldsmobile, or the 455 buick. That Was a pretty stout engine. They put the 455 in some of the Trans AM to. That would have been fun to drive that engine in the T/A. Not the biggest horsepower , but lots of torque. It sure would light up them tires though.
