So wonderful to see a guy enjoying his car this much! I ordered a 2006 Solstice the first day Pontiac opened the order banks and had to wait 9 months for my car to be built. Blue 5 speed manual car. The day it was delivered my wife and I picked it up from the dealership and had two soft sided bags we put in the trunk, dropped the top, and took off on a 10 day road trip. We only put the top up once when it rained and at night when we parked at the hotels. Our only rule was we had to stay off the interstate and were not allowed to look at a map. We just drove. When I found out the plant was being closed and they would not be making any more, I loved my Solstice so much that I traded it in on a brand new Sky Redline Ruby Red limited edition with 5 speed manual in 2009. Before delivery, I had the dealership add the GM performance turbo upgrade package that brought it to 290hp and 340 ft/lbs torque. Unfortunately, after the Saturn dealership closed down, I had to take it to Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine Texas for warranty work. They dropped a "foreign object" into a cylinder while changing spark plugs, blowing the engine. In their efforts to repair, they damaged most of the body panels on the car requiring them to repaint them all (badly). After 5-6 months of trying, they never could get the car right so I gave up and traded it in. After all these years, I still really miss my Kappas and am back in the market to buy one before they get too old. I do recommend you join the Solstice Forum dot com web site for info and help.

That’s a shame about the Saturn. I tried to buy a 2006 with only 11,000 miles on it. The guy was flaky and I got tired of waiting for him to keep an appointment, so I picked up this one with 90,000 miles on it for half the price. I think I may upgrade to a GXP with low miles and keep it for a LONG time.

LOVED to see that video - I wish I had a son to share my SOLSTICE with !! In any event - I have my second one. I bought a 2006 (first year) ordered from factory with every option from a Richmond dealership that gave me best deal. FLA dealers wee marking car up as much as $10k. Took AMTRAK from Ft. Laud, picked it up in Richmond and had a wonderful 2 day drive home - truly unforgettable !! I loved every day I drove that car and I have a 2003 50th Anniv. Corvette I drive, but I just love the excitement of that roadster. In 2009 on a RAINY Labor day an idiot moves in my lane - taps the front of my car and it forced me into a hydroplane spin. Hit the barrier to the left head on with front - spun across 3 lanes on SAWGRASS PARKWAY and the rear took the impact on right shoulder where she stopped. I came to about 30 seconds later with blood dripping down my face to the voice of an ONSTAR lady letting me know help was on the way (ONSTAR Rocks!!!) . I apparently bounced up and the steel support bar in convertible top opened a gash. The car was totaled. I got out of the hospital and went straight to junk yard. My brother - one of a top insurers HEAD TECHNICAL CLAIM ADJUSTER, looked in awe how that car performed in a extremely bad accident to save my life. He showed me how well it was designed with hydroformed steel frame rails and how well the cockpit was designed so the front and back would sacrifice (I wish I knew where pic was to show you). It made me so sad because PONTIAC was at that moment pretty much gone. When I came across an identically loaded SILVER SOLSTICE in TEXAS in December 2010 with only 1300 miles, I got on a plane drove into the middle of nowhere, where this farmer had this SOLSTICE tucked under a cover. MADE NO SENSE. He had given it to his wife of 35 years as a birthday gift in 2007, and 1 month later she was diagnosed with CANCER. She passed very quickly and the car sat for 3 years and their kids finally convinced him to sell it. There was this tiny stuffed dog and the TEXAS inspection stickers to this day I keep in/on the car as a tribute to her. I still only have 15,000 miles on it and I need to find a replacement top before they are hard to find. Mine doesn't sit right and the driver window presses into the piping. Other than that the car is in MINT condition and I shall keep it until it become a collector car, which it should be. I'm going to start to look for parts that may be hard to find in a few years and stow them away. LASTLY, it was the wrong decision to kill PONTIAC. I understood SATURN and HUMMER, but PONTIAC was finally putting cars out people were buying. The SOLSTICE sold out !! I don't understand why that car with it's sales didn't become a CHEVY or a BUICK. Long live the PONTIAC SOLSTICE !!!

My friend the king of Soul Power, and Soul Brothers throughout the nation, the late James Brown, exalted gospel singer, rock and roller, R&B, jive and you name it ( I can't remember all of the types of music of those grand eras) had a solid black Jet Commander to go with your SOULstice. I remember it well. I don't know that he spent much time in one of these little convertibles, but he sure spent a lot of time in other General Motors products, namely the Cadillac division. Shag carpet dash boards weren't factory options at the time, but he customized his rides to the hilt ! May God rest his weary soul.

I bought a GXP which is the turbo charged model for my wife in 2007. It’s really fun to drive but they used a lot of cheap plastic parts that constantly break. She uses it for a summer car and it gets between 28 and 32 mpg. It only has 40,000 miles on it after 12 years and has very little resale value so we’ll probably keep it for a long time, it’s still fun and they are surprisingly fast.

I have a Saturn Sky. Same car, same platform, different body panels. I like the lines in the Sky better. Just my preference but almost everything he said is true. Awesome car, a blast and a half to drive, top up or down and since there are very few on the road you have folks ask you about it a lot or a thumbs up. Its my daily drive. With the top up there is ample room for groceries or soft luggage. Top down, not so much but still some room. All in all I give both cars 5 out of 5 stars. I picked mine up for $9,300 with 44,000 miles. If you want a fun, awesome little car that gets peoples attention, dis be da one!! Happy Motoring.

It's a decent choice. I wouldn't drive it in the snow, so if you live in Northern climates and this would be your only car...I'd keep looking. If that isn't a factor, just remember that there isn't much room to carry anything. As far as the Porsche goes, just remember that the purchase price is just the beginning. Those cars are VERY expensive to maintain. The Porsche is a higher quality car, but everything you do to it is pricey. The Solstice is very cheap to own.

My coworker owns one of this, original owner and it’s cute looking though has been nothing but problems. Every month it’s in the shop. The dealership can’t diagnose it’s many problems. Tonight he told me the check engine light turned on this morning and he just got it back on Thursday after one week in the dealership’s shop. On Monday it started leaking a fluid while sitting in the parking lot when he got to work so he took it back and they replaced an engine coolant hose the next morning. He is frustrated & thinking about trading it. He’s only got 134k on it but within the last month he’s spent $2700 on fixing it. Don’t buy that thing folks!

"wanted something made in america" LOL Japanese = superior dude, solstice is just price competitive
@quinnjim5 жыл бұрын
Last I checked I can still prefer American made cars. I did look at Toyotas last year. They seemed cheaply put together and were lacking features that you expect from modern cars. I did buy my wife an Infinity QX80 this year. She can drive whatever she wants!

@@quinnjim Ford will stop selling cars in the US, GM is following suite, Dodge hasn't built a good small car in at least a decade. Is your next video going to be about how you wanted a full size pickup built in America? I'm not saying this was a bad car, but if GM and others are going to kill whole brands and plants based on their poor financial decisions then why even buy American? At least the Japanese plants in the US will stay in business.

i agree here about the japanese being superior but these are still fun little cars. it's not horrible like the fiero. i'd say that american family cars are a bit boring but we have some sweet sport and muscle cars
@lolcow_president3 жыл бұрын
@@dailytherapy7597 I think American sports cars and muscle cars are quite good. But our commuter cars are garbage. They just fall short against their Japanese and German competitors. Even Korean brands.

@@quinnjim True, we own a Ford Flex and a Mustang. Both their transmissions are going out, they’re both less than 10 years old, both have under 100k miles. I think I’m done with fords.

If all you're going to do is piss 'n' moan, why not just click on something else and get on with your life? I don't have a Mazda; you don't see me over on Mazda videos trying to rain on people's parades.

The best deal on a used 2 seat roadster today is a Porsche Boxster S. The Solstice is a piece of GM plastic crap.
@quinnjim6 жыл бұрын
Apples and oranges. The Porsche is 5 times as much money. (The Mclaren MP4-12C is a great deal too at only $140,000!) The Boxter has some serious design deficiencies too (depending on the year). I would rather have a Caymen if I went the Porsche route.

mylo2112ify is just being an idiot and trying to show off how much he can afford and that he has more expensive tastes. Quinnjim, people appreciate your video and can see your passion for your car and sharing that passion with your son. mylo2112ify, take your Porsche and have fun with it, but the real wealthy people that drives Pagani Huayra roadsters will look at you as a wannabe middle class individual that is taking on debt to take on a lifestyle you have no business living.
