Thanks again Tom! One thing, when explaining the hardware that you use, would be nice to know what comes with the kit and what you add from your personal stock to make it easier or better. Keep bringing the great videos.

I'll be sure to mention when I add additional hardware. Basically all of their furniture and consoles come with stainless screws, so I have a whole plethora of stainless 1/4-20 machine screws of various lengths along with flat washers and nylock nuts.

Awesome! It’s such a rewarding job to complete, and you’ll get to enjoy it and share it with friends and family summer after summer. Best of luck in your refurb, and comment if you have stuff you want to see covered in a video!

Great vid. Do you have a full parts list of what's on the console? Did you end up installing a Tach and other engine gagues?
@tomspontoons Жыл бұрын
I don’t have a full list, however go over to PontoonStuff.com and you can see the parts and accessories that we use on a regular basis including gauge packages.

What size hole does the speaker need ? I bought the same speakers
@tomspontoons Жыл бұрын
Per the Pontoon Stuff website it's 4.97"....so 5". I use a stencil I made a while back that's always worked, and I use a Dremel tool with a multi surface cutting bit to cut it out. A 5" hole saw would scare me that it'll grab and scuff when trying to start my cut!

Thanks for your videos! I am almost done with my retoration of a 1973 twin-alume pontoon. I have installed the large console like in the video. I have discovered that the steering system puts alot of torque on the console and I am afraid it may break the plastic. Any suggestions for beefing up the area I would appreciate it. Thanks!
@tomspontoons2 жыл бұрын
I’ve not had a problem with that console including installing it with hydraulic steering (very heavy unit) on my tritoon. You could grab a couple pieces of 3/16” or 1/4” aluminum to use as a backing or to sandwich the part of the helm where the steering is installed. A backing is very common even on older fiberglass helms.

I have a console like that from pontoon stuff I tried painting it with black paint but it's not sticking any scratch show up bad what kind of paint is good for a console made of plastic
@tomspontoons2 жыл бұрын
I wish I had a great answer for that question Alan!! I’ve only painted smoother surfaces in the past, using Krylon plastics paint, always priming first. My fear is that the roto molded plastic texture of that console won’t hold paint well. I will dig in with the manufacturer and see if there’s a better answer!!

@@tomspontoons thanks for answering my question my reality is I am probably going to have to repaint it but the second time I want it to work.
@tomspontoons2 жыл бұрын
My contact at Pontoon Stuff said he knows it's been done, but not sure what paint people used. Personally, I would scuff it up with a scotch brite pad, hit it with a Krylon plastic primer for a couple coats, then a Krylon plastic paint.

Can you do a video on how to install an entire Speedometer kit on a pontoon? I Have a 1995 lowe 185 18ft with a 2003 mercury. First pontoon
@tomspontoons2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Thanks for subscribing and asking some great questions. Do you already have the speedometer? Other gauges on the dash too? We highly recommend the GPS speedometer for a number of reasons including better accuracy.
@bthompson1012022 жыл бұрын
@@tomspontoons I do have all guages minus the Tachometer in dash already. After i sent that message, i was looking over the gps ones and i do like them. I am going to attempt to replace the pitot and see if that speedo still works...if not i will get a gps one.
