These are great. Take a look at Library of America. The LOA books are comparable to the Everyman's, but they only feature American Literature. I love their books, fit right in the hand and are consistently of good quality as well. A good complement to Everyman's.

I really love Everyman's Library editions, they're cheap enough that it's a no-brainer to buy them on a whim, unlike Folio Society where you have to think twice about the cost. Though I wish they'd pick up the pace of releasing new titles, which seems to be quite slow in recent years, and stick more to classics. Incidentally I recently purchased the Everyman's Library edition of Gulliver's Travels, and it had sewn binding. So those glue bound copies might finally be out of circulation.

This is not a “religious” thing, but I wanted to comment that I think it’s weird that the Old Testament is readily available as such, for students of ancient texts and history aficionados and such…yet, the New Testament is not?? I would encourage you to find a nice version of it and read *IT* as well. I mean, why not?
@ShapelessHail3 ай бұрын
I own the 1611 King James Authorized New and Old Testaments published by Everyman's. Everyman has the new testament as well. One thing that sets Everyman's Library apart from typical bible publishers is they are reader focused in their formatting. This means that font size is large and readable and the paper is thick, like a novel. Because of the thick paper, they had to split the book into multiple volumes, which is common with Everyman's. War and Peace is in 3 volumes, for example. It's also in single column, although it is not in paragraph format and each numbered verse starts a new line. These versions also include an introduction with background information about the translations and creation of the King James Bible, and even includes the original letters to King James by the translators included in the original Bible. The only flaw with this version of the bible as a historical facsimile is that it does not include the apocryphal books that were included in the original Bible.

@@folksurvival No. Rather, good female authors have been marginalized through out history. Both by publicists, reviewers and by the education system and the cultural "elite" that desides on which works that should be considered "classics". It might be time to redeem that, and bring forth all the overlooked great female authors of past and present.

The first thing you should do when you get home with an Everyman's Library edition is take the dust cover off and throw it in the trash. Those are just to protect the cover when it's in the store. They're meant to be displayed on the shelf without them. Whenever I go to someone's house and they have EL editions with the covers still on it just screams plebeian.
