I totally get it, my old pony always injured her soft tissues in her suspensories and she always had to have time off. My other pony is lamanitic and if she has to much sugar she can barley walk. So girl I know what you are going through!! If you don’t mind me asking, what brand is the saddle? Some saddles are notorious for causing back problems *Voltaire cough*

QOTD: Our stable was never closed so I’ve got to jump as much as normal although we only jump every fourth lesson at my riding school. The last lesson before the summer I thought it’d be nice to try a new horse because I knew we weren’t gonna jump. Jokes on me it was the last lesson which means the group got to decide on what to do so jumping it was. Nearly fell off when my horse did a dead stop in front of a fence but I luckily landed on the neck and she was kind enough to stick her head up to help me back in the saddle😅it was a mishap but she was lovely otherwise😍

@2.welsh.ponies5224 жыл бұрын
Jessica Patterson oh dear🤣🤣I hope it didn’t hurt too much as they can really hurt.I was once in a lesson doing a course of really tight show jumps and we were doing it jump off style against ourselves being timed.I did a super sharp turn to a jump and after that Gethin (the pony that I was riding) lost a bit of momentum so I gave him a little kick (I mean really little) and then he did a big buck.Because he really isn’t mean,he just likes to do what he wants to do) he stopped as he could feel that I was coming off.But he suddenly cantered towards and I lost my balance and I fell.It was SO PAINFUL (as in like it didn’t hurt but I felt hopeless) AS I JUST SLIPPED OVER TO THE SIDE AND FELL OFF.i mean it didn’t hurt and I got back on.The timer was still running and I got a totally amazing 1:50 seconds🤦♀️🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣The next time I did much better and I got 36 seconds but still🤣🤣🐴🐴🤣🤣

Wait your riding school tacks up for you?
@PonyCam4 жыл бұрын
Yep, it ensures all horses and ponies are tacked up correctly and are comfortable as they’re tacked up by the staff who work there and are paid to do so. It’s also a very busy yard so it’s to help make sure all rides leave the yard exactly on time and no one’s faffing around grooming/tacking up their pony while everyone’s waiting to leave. (It also helps at the moment with the Pandemic and rider’s not having to go into the main barn where most of the horses are before the lesson begins).

What kind of bit does Magic have? And what does it help with, does it just feel nicer or does it make it easier to ride him in any way?
@PonyCam4 жыл бұрын
Magic has a dutch gag, which offers a similar action to a snaffle, but with added poll pressure the further down the rings you go. If you have the reins on the big ‘snaffle ring’ then there is only a small amount of poll pressure applied (Magic works fine on the flat on this ring, but can get a bit heavy and lean on the rider’s hands). The second ring down, where Magic’s reins attach, offers a bit more poll pressure which can encourage the horse to lower his head (instead of going round like a giraffe the whole time) and adds brakes when you need them. Magic works well on the second ring for jumping as he can throw his head in the air and become quite strong into a fence, and often ignores seat aids if he gets too excited. The third ring can be quite strong (although obviously a bit is only as strong as the rider’s hands) and adds quite a bit more leverage than a plain snaffle, which Magic doesn’t need. Magic stays on the second ring most of the time, even though he listens to the rider’s seat a lot better now than he used to, because he works really nicely & lightly on the flat with an elastic contact, where as he can get a bit heavy and on the forehand on the first ring, and it now just works as a reminder coming into jumps not to tank at them, rather than actually holding him back which is a great improvement 😊 He’d be ok in a plain snaffle, but the gag helps out the rider to make him work more ‘correctly’ which in turn is good for him, as he has quite a long, weak back and need to work a bit more round & from behind.

@equineedits87964 жыл бұрын
To make it easier to turn try bending their head to the inside
@PonyCam4 жыл бұрын
My leg isn’t long/strong enough to get this horse bending around my inside leg after a fence if he doesn’t want to, as he naturally bends to the outside and leads with his inside shoulder round corners (it’s just an ingrained habit). It doesn’t look great, but it’s actually a huge improvement compared to a year ago as his flat work has improved! But sometimes jumping is just a bit too exciting for him to remember all his flatwork in between fences, no matter how much I ask him to bend 😊
@equineedits87964 жыл бұрын
PonyCam that makes sense! He does look like he can get a bit strong so your doing so well 🥰

Why do you guys leave out the leather straps and not put them back into the keepers?
@PonyCam4 жыл бұрын
I usually do put them in, but often I will leave them out for the first part of the lesson as I know I’m going to have to take them out of the keepers halfway through to adjust my stirrups for jumping, and Magic’s leathers are super stiff!

They’re only in their stables to be tacked up/untacked when they have a lesson. They spend the other 90% of their time out in a herd in huge grass fields. Please feel free to ask questions if you’re unsure about something you see in a video, but I would appreciate it if you didn’t make assumptions about the horses treatment. All of the horses & ponies at this riding school & livery yard are looked after extremely well.

It’s mainly just common sense, but the yard’s rules/procedures are: - Only 4 people max are allowed in a lesson (used to be six). - No indoor lessons, only outdoor. - Only people who are able to sort their own girth & stirrups etc. can ride (so no beginners unfortunately). - No touching anything except the horse/tack/stable. - Only one person allowed in the main office at once. - All tack is thoroughly cleaned after every ride. - everyone must bring their own hats/gloves etc. (No borrowing). - Hands must be washed/clean before entering the yard. - Stay at least 2m away from everyone on the ground. - No one can watch from the side (eg parents etc), though I think they may have relaxed that rule now as time has gone on.

riding schools that leave horses in saddle and bridle overworked there horses . That horse could be wearing saddle and bridle the whole day . It’s a major red flag of a bad riding school unfortunately when money is involved the horses welfare comes second.
