Hello! Friendly PSA: As always, looking forward to the comments that say “omg how did you even fall off though” or “you could have stayed on” (like I didn’t even try not to fall and actually quite fancied a little late morning plunge into the freezing water...) 💦🙃 Please understand, I don’t care if you won national champs on your dad’s uncle’s friend’s dog’s wild mustang that you broke in yourself and have never fallen off - if you land after a fence without stirrups, on the right hand side of the saddle, behind the horses big canter movement with your reins on the buckle, and the horse then immediately dodges to the left while you’re already halfway out of the right side/back door with nothing to grab on to, you’re going to fall, because physics exists 😁👍 x

Well said. I think people forget that watching a video of someone falling is wayy different from experiencing it first hand. No matter how great of a rider you are falling off is a part of riding. I am currently a horse riding instructor and I fell off a few weeks ago on a horse I have ridden for 4 years. Stuff happens and it is never a embarrassing thing to fall off in my opinion. It is all about learning from the fall. Saying that someone is a worse rider because they fell off is really silly. Plus if you have never fallen off a horse you have not experienced having to go through the struggle of getting back on a horse after you have had that shock which I think is a big part of ridding and a big part of becoming a better rider.

"You kicked him, you kicked him!" Come on, seriously lmfao. You hooked a leg around him because he moved, as we all do. Hardly a kick. I give you a lot of credit for sharing your rides because the amount of armchair experts in this sport is unbelievable. Lot of Olympians out there somehow. 🤪

I got back on again and I was very happy that she didn't run over the top of me or run off she just waited for me to get back up. Thanks for showing me your experience you're a great rider and very brave for getting back on after landing in the water!

Well that was an eventful ride!! QoTD: I basically fell of 3 times in one ride. I was at a show on a shetland who I had brought back into work after him having 5yrs off riding. I was the only one he trusted and I was the only one who could do anything with him. I slowly brought him back to work, and our yard was holding a show. We entered a class that was full of horses (they were like 15.2h - about 17h) and came 2nd. So far so good. Doing the lap of honour, something happened but it made him spook and I fell off. I got back on and started walking him around the warm up field and he bolts again. He serves around a fence 90° ish and serves again. The saddle slipped and I fell off again, landing on my hip. A friend of my mums told me I had to get back on. I didnt want to but she basicslly forced me to get back on. I got on, and he surged forwards. I wasnt entirely expecting this so I fell off again. I didnt ride for 6months after that due to sheer confidence loss. Safe to say he got fully retired after that, but our bond never broke ❤🐴 (Sorry for the long story🤣) xx

I'm a disabled rider. I owned a Peruvian Paso for about 12 years, a wonderful horse that was bonded to me and looked out for me and that was the only reason I never came off him. I have terrible balance because of a twisted spine and uneven hips, and there were numerous times where he felt me going off balance and would "catch" me with his shoulder or an extra step. But I've ridden enough horses to know that falling is part of riding. It just is. Anyone who would scoff that good riders don't fall hasn't ridden enough. And cross-country in particular is rough! I love the enthusiasm the horse has for his job; it's truly heartwarming to see.

I lost count of the amount of times I fell off cross country one day but I know it was more than 10 😂 I learned the lesson that sometimes it is too dangerous to continue and you should just leave it when the horse is having a bad day that hard way! Yep, that is why I decided to lunge mine before work, after I fell off during a canter due to his excitment on my last ride. He is pretty young (5yrs old) and he is very good, but with my lack of experience I prefer to have him more relaxed. Good idea to swap horses; as you said, is not always necessary to get up on the same horse in a situation like yours

The first and second times, I fell off going over a jump and the third time the horse i was riding got too out of control and ran straight into the other horse in the lesson, which made the horse i was riding annoyed so she bucked and i was off again!

Oh boy, how exciting. I've ridden a horse like that, and I absolutely love her, but she is forward and will take off like a shot if you give her the command. If you come out of the canter, and you are tense in anyway, she will go back up into trot. She's not a disobedient horse, she just loves to go, and takes tenseness as a cue to go. I've really had to learn to master my nerves on her, but I do love her, she is so wonderful to ride.

I have to laugh at the timing of you switching horses in this video, I've been riding 15 years, had a horrible fall a couple of years back, and get very worried even watching videos of people cantering in fields. I'd like an ID due to the total versatility of what I could enjoy with them, but I was watching you fall off Herbie going "oh god, maybe I wont get an ID, maybe I'll just get a smaller horse" then you mention about Laddy and I see how chilled out he is... Perfect timing, I'll keep them in mind

Shannon Wallace Laddy (best ID ever in my opinion!) is honestly one of the most brilliant horses I’ve met. He’ll jump all the big fences out XC and loves a gallop through the stubble, but is equally happy trundling along in walk & trot with beginners or schooling on the flat in the arena. He’s so versatile and so incredibly kind natured and a huge asset the the riding school!

QOTD- only once in a single ride, and only 3 times total. I've been riding since I was 10, and I'm 30 now. My instructor says my seat is made of glue lol which was great for me but also not, because any horse that decided to be naughty, she put me on! Only times I've ever fallen were the day I got my horse - it was a show, she was gifted to me (had been leasing her so I knew her well) and I was just so excited that I popped her over a warmup jump at a bad angle, lost my stirrup and then she tripped on the landing lol off I went! I fell off the next day at lessons too- not her fault. Playing follow the leader and the horse in front of her kicked the pole toward her face. I predicted she would dodge right, but she went left and off I went again 😂 3rd time was a friends horse I was thinking of buying. I wasnt used to her saddle and he spooked- I just remember looking down and I was a good 4 feet above the saddle, thinking, "oh god this is gonna hurt' and ended up landing on my right hip. So much pain!!!! That was probably 10 years ago, haven't fallen off since!

QOTD: Surprisingly only once. I was trotting around on a 12.3 Fell cross pony, I was doing paired riding with someone else and as we were trotting around the corner he tripped and landed on the floor, along with me. He ended up losing a tooth (I think) but we were OK. I got back on and basically finished, there was only around 15 minutes left to do. Another time I nearly came off is when he decided it would be a good idea to canter at the long side of the arena, into some trees. We went on the lunge after that then when we went off the lunge, it all seemed fine until he did it again however this time he came back out the trees at the other side of the gate and started walking up near the stables. I did get him to stop so I could dismount (to be safe) then we thought about lunging him again whilst someone came down the the arena with my favorite pony there, Barbie (Yes the name is weird I didnt pick it lol!) She is a beautiful haflinger, 21 years old now and we finished the lesson on her and did some dressage.

QOTD: twice the first time he bolted over a tiny cross pole and jumped it massive and because I’m tiny on him I couldn’t really grip and fell off then after that tried to go over a pole and my mum stood to the side so he couldn’t dodge it but instead he bolted and swerved round her and I fell off and broke my elbow

I've never taken my pony xc yet but I'm hoping to get a stronger bit before since she can get a bit cheeky when jumping and has bolted off with me hacking and I think it will be quite exciting when we mix the two so I'd like to have a bit of control 😂

I fell once a few months ago, my lease horse is aggressive towards other horses and someone was lungeing in the arena, so we were cantering and he lunged at the horse which unbalanced me. I pulled him to the side and tried to find my seat but he put his head all the way down and stopped really fast so I flew over XD ended up with a concussion- of course didn’t know that right away so I hopped back on! 😋

I was on a pony going cross country for the first time. The pony was new to the barn and I had only a year of English riding experience. I live in the U.S and I did western before English. We didn't know if he had been xc or not and he was the only pony available for me to ride. We went through the water first bc it was hot. He put his head straight down and bumped his bum up a bit. I wouldn't say it was a fall it was more so a slide off lol. But anyway we went to our first little jump and I was just showing him the jump at first. He jumped straight up and back down with his head down over it and that was the first Tim I actually fell. I was a bit shaken bc I wasn't expecting it. After that he was just being naughty and hot headed so I just walked him around for a bit. I decided to jump some more jumps and he did fine. The last jump I went over I fell the same was as the first jump. ( left side of my head and shoulder) And something just didn't feel right so I got on and walked him back to the trailer. I later went to urgent care then the hospital and I had broken my collar bone. Sorry for the long explanation but I guess its kind of similar to yours.

QOTD: I once fell of 4 times in one lesson. I was riding my naughty chestnut pony, it was a very icy, snowy day and we were walking up to the arena and he got left behind and bucked and I just went straight off. Then about 10 minutes into the lesson we were cantering round and Sam spooked are something at the gate and I went flying to the side, then the last two times he was just being annoying and bucked me off. It was pretty fun though and I got to ride another horse called Minnie

AOTD: I've only ever fallen off once. But it was in a free ride because at my yard I was helping out at a pony day and I got a free ride in the lesson before my lesson because that was also the day I rode. (This was in UK February half term) one of the riding instructors who I had on another day when I used to ride told me to get on PeeWee for that lesson (a small roughly 12hh pony). He can be a monster sometimes and the lesson I was on him for was an introduction to canter lesson so they weren't that good at it or confident and they only do one canter in that lesson. The person in front of me was from that lesson and my instructor went round with her because she was nervous, so PeeWee was getting ancy, so instantly I was like in my head: I'm gonna fall off, that's just gonna happen. Earlier, my friend said she would laugh if I fell off. So we went round, he through a bucking fit, btw he can barely buck there just tiny. So I just flipped, slow motion my instructor said, over his shoulder. Everyone was laughing, even me, other than the people from that lesson and my mum. I'm pretty sure my instructor was trying not to laugh and honestly it was hilarious. The worst bit though My mum didn't film it which was the worst part. Edit: I've only ridden that horse once before in a free ride on a Saturday morning with the smaller children
