Money belongs to the mother and whether she decides to marry or stay single. She paid for it so it's her. Can't believe these people are this greedy. If you want life insurance money, you go buy your own life insurance policy AND pay for the policy yourself. Shame on these greedy people.

Life insurance is for the surviving spouse or partner or whoever the policy say is entitled to it. No one helped pay for the policy therefore its no one's business to even know if you have a policy or how much it is!

People, you don't need to announce to the relatives about how much money you have or how big a life insurance you're getting. Be discreet to avoid problems like this. I have a smiliar situation happen to me where the sister acuse me of taken the life insurance money but the truth is that they dont love my parents and i have never try to take their money but it okay evil people i stay away...never will i ever forget how shameless people could do this to me. This problem would had been avoided if the deceased husband designated the children as beneficiaries too. Her husband asked her not to get remarried but she did anyway, just as the brothers predicted. I'm sure her deceased husband would want the kids to have some of the money too if he had known she would remarry and planned to keep everything for herself. Brothers have absolutely no right to the money but some should be given to the children. $500k tax free cash is not a little, it's a lot of money and she didn't give the children any money until the husband's brothers demanded it be split. True, it's in her name so it's her money but keeping all $500k for herself and none for the children is greed. As for the house, it's hers so the kids trying to take it is wrong... it's attempted theft. When my mom passed away, what's left after funeral expenses and reimbursements (reimbursed the children the out-of-pocket money they contributed towards funeral expenses), what's left, we split it evenly among all her children, even those who aren't beneficiaries.
