Wow, thank you so much for the incredibly comprehensive guide on the splitstaff! 😊 I was struggling a lot using this weapon while attacking human enemies. My subpar solution was just to switch to the switchglaive haha. Going to try out changing my stances frequently when fighting them instead now!

Honestly, I like to go about large or medium sized enemies, yoki sized or larger to be specific, with changing ways mixed with mid-stance bonks, interchanging between solid and fluid form strikes depending on distance, before ravaging their health with dragon dance, stunlocking them to death if ever possible. It was effective, but I could be a tad more efficient, and this has certainly helped give me an idea as to how I want to improve my playstyle as I progress.

I've been playing the Splitstaff since day one of the 1st dlc, and it's my favorite weapon. the one thing I hate doing is playing coop with fist users. their moves naturally move the enemies all over the place, which is kinda bad for a Splitstaff user. perfect weapon otherwise. also, amazing guides, I've watched your switchglaive guide too, lots of useful info

I like using shin crusher to deplete ki on human enemies, then heron kick to knock off the DotN buff. Soo slick.

played nioh 2 demo years ago and used odachi...in nioh 1 i focused on spear and katana. but now with it on ps+ im gna finally play it lmao. im thinking i might start with this weapon. upon watching the first few min of this video i realize the criticisms with its long animations are reminiscent of the surge games. alot of people felt it was clunky because alot of the movesets are high commitment and locked you in to extended moves while a typical souls game had basic r1 and r2 1 move attacks. but i actualyl didnt mind it and it forced u not to mash so much and be more deliberate in your actions. hopefully i can get the hang of this weapon lol.

I viewed this guide before starting with the weapon, but still fell into the same caveats as mentioned - shin crusher + animations are too long. Then I took the dive and started playing with the spear. Unlike the splitstaff, the spear underperforms in close range and you can immediately feel the need for range management. The mystic art mission with the spear took me maybe 10 tries before I learned how to bait the guy with long range attacks. And immediately afterwards I did the splitstaff mission and it took 30 seconds and was completely onesided. In other words, this is a very good guide but the emphasis on range management should be stronger. There is no point in extending long range skills if you use them from short range and get interrupted.

Thanks for this. Coming back to Nioh 2 after a break, And i start fresh over. I never got the hang of the SplitStaff first time i played Nioh 2. You give me some ideas to go and try. Feel like I am out of KI the whole time when starting from level 1 :-) Can only get better. what the take down move at 19:20 ? Kindly.

Fist combos go on for daaaaaays, And once you get Izuna drop you can obliterate ki, Izuna drop them, high stance strong kick into light strike+Ki bash to chain Izuna drop into the guard break throw on human targets and on Yokai, you just go absolutely nuts with every stance because Ki bash gives you damage, stagger and a stance swap all in one basically without ever stopping. Barrier talismans just let you keep the train going for their duration, it's sick

To extend for more hits or more range, just hold down the button down for like an extra split second. Tap and hold, yeah.

The splitstaff comes from ninja gaiden when you max out the base staff it evolves into chained staff pommel attacks

Absolutely and it's awesome. I just started playing and I was struggling to find the right weapon but splitstaff changed everything for me. I was a huge fan of the Lunar Staff in Ninja Gaiden and making that connection made Nioh 2 much more approachable.

You need the DLCs to get Splitstaff and Fists.

The level cap for weapons increases with each difficulty. By Dream of the Nioh, weapons can be leveled up to 60. You'll have plenty of excess points by then.

I personally don't really get the point of the ki-pulse movement ability, I started playing a lot better with splitstaff after I disabled it. It doesn't really seem to have any benefit beyond flashiness? Since you can just low stance dodge instead of using it and cover the same distance and get the ki pulse too while you're at it.

I find I can reposition where I want to in a single swift motion. While I could replicate a similar feat via dodging, it tends not to feel as smooth for me.

Second point 8 months late, I don't remember if Splitstaff has the same launch as Spear does but if you wipe out their Ki and then do the vault into the target you can get an additional staggering hit in, while recovering Ki and getting ready for your follow up. As a fist and Glaive user, that sounds pretty damn valuable to me. If it doesn't have the kick, then I'd use it less of there's no follow up
