Hello Swim University. I just bought an intex 32x16x52 above ground pool to use for next year(I live in MI near Ann Arbor, so swimming season is ending). It is 14,364 gallons of water when filled. I want a heat pump but am having difficulties finding some that are for pools of this size and that are also made for an intex pop up pool. Do you have any recommendations? I hope using a heat pump and a solar cover will extend my swimming season by a month or two(maybe from May-September) so if they could work down to 40°F so I could open the pool up early and close it later, then that'd be fantastic. I've seen some heat pumps that worked to that temp, but were too small for my pool. Thank you.

I guess my only argument with your video is you did not address ongoing costs. My heat pump is MUCH less to run. Our neighbor, before we moved, had a gas heater. It was much cheaper to buy the unit, but the first weekend he used it in CA, cost him $90 to heat the pool. My heat pump has added at the most, $30 to my energy bill. I think a heat pump, depending on your location, is a much better option because of the continuing costs.

Very surprised there are no "dual purpose" pool heating devices. I have always thought a propane fireplace or wood burning chiminea with plumbing to natural pull water through the chimney and let it pour back into the pool would be a neat idea.

Heat Pumps can be more efficient than a gas heater if the ambient air temp is 70 F or higher. However if you live in a climate where the temperature goes down at night and you want to run your pump at night because electricity costs are lower overnight then you heat pump will run all night and cost you more. I have learned to leave my heat pump on in the day and the pool heats up much quicker and more effeciently.

How much does it cost to run? I have a hayward 400kbtu natural gas heater recently installed and turned it on the other night just for our spa for my wife and I and when I saw my gas meter spinning I freaked a little haha!

@@andybulldog79 I'm the wrong person to ask about the cost of running a natural gas heater. We have several natural gas wells on our farm so it's free for us. That's why I went with a natural gas model. Sorry I'm no help.

I have installed a lot of heat pumps in pools here in Greece. The proper way, installing them somewhere outside. 99% of the pools here, have engine rooms which are indoors. I am wondering if it is possible to install a 9kw heat pump INside an engine room which is quite big (150 square feet) with a 9 feet ceiling. The door of the engine room has straight holes from which air comes naturally inside the room. Will it work? Or will I just get a frozen engine room and no heat in the pool water?

I had a pentair mastertemp installed about 10ft below the water level. Instructions said to put a flow switch in, but the installer skipped it. Now I need to replace the control board. Did the lack of the flow switch cause the failure? Or can I safely replace the control board without the flow switch? The part is $500+.

Are electric heat pumps noisy? We mindful of our neighbours. We have 21ft round above ground and are looking for the easiest, most cost efficient way to heat the pool. Being in Ontario Canada, we’re not looking to swim year round, we just want to extend our swim season a few weeks and keep the temp more consistent during summer. Thanks.

i would like to use a smaller pump for the heater to run when the big pump is off. can I use a booster pump on the pool side of the filter and draw though the big pump? or should i just get a secondary pool pump plumbed separate from the main pump?

Can a heat pump keep your pool warm in the winter months? Will a gas heat?
@glitterishhh
@glitterishhh 3 жыл бұрын
@Frankie heat pump will not work in the winter, as the heat pump cannot make a pool warmer than the outside air (it pumps heat from the air into the water)
@sblarock

I would guess it depends where you live. In Florida, where I live, it rarely gets below 50 degrees, so a heat pump works well and cheaply in the winter.
