Question: hot tub had no heat and heating element and wires replaced. It worked but then/now only holds temperature at 87 degrees for 2 weeks. I’ve been told now that it needs a new BP spa pack (current one was replaced 2 1/2 years ago). This sounds wrong to me. Comments?

Really you just gotta keep the ph and alkalinity balanced. I got my tub and after the first week it was foamy and I couldn’t get the chemicals balanced. So I started over and after refilling I shocked the hot tub immediately and added bromine tablets. I test the water every 3 days and add whatever chemical I need. Usually it’s a little PH up. No foam after 3 months.

One other addition to this is to make sure that your filters PSI is not over 20+. Also, to clean it instead of backwashing. It will save you money with higher success rate if you do this along with what SU said.

I keep getting air trapped under my filter caps, one cap has the bulk of the air. Anyhow it causes low flow through the heater and then the heater trips off. Is there any way to prevent this? It’s a perpetual problem each week

Might be an issue with your o-ring and the filter not making proper suction

18-24 inches below skimmers if mesh cover: my pool guy refused to lower my level at all, and I found myself using a slow pump borrowed from my father to drain 8 inches out when the pool filled to bring in NOVEMBEr. I won’t open until May! Yikes! When you said 18-24 inches below skimmer, does this mean which part of the skimmer? The skimmer depth itself is so long! Water was full in my skimmer, I got some out and added rv antifreeze, however, another 5+ inches of snow and rain, I’m gonna have more headaches . I just wonder where the skimmer is measured bc it has many dimensions inside the skimmer is like 2 feet high - thanks for any tips. Do I need to lower even more? My pool is I ground salt pool, guy didn’t add any chemicals to close and just said don’t worry about it when I showed him a pic w the pool full to half mesh cover wet - any ones suggestion? This is in New York it has been snowing

18-24 is a general range to help with rainfall over the months your pool is closed. But it's usually measured from the bottom of the skimmer

@@SwimUniversitywow thanks for the reply. Do you mean the bottom of the skimmer, like the point of view from standing inside the pool (where there’s the plate on the liner…it is the bottom of this rectangle and down from there (?) - that’s about 24-32 inches more than mine was closed if so lol

My CYA level is around 500 No matter how much shock I add, it isn’t going blue. Pool shop said it is chlorine lock and I need to drain my pool you said that isn’t real. Help

Depends on the model and brand but they're not typically THAT loud to disturb neighbors

And make sure you only use it for 5 minutes. If you go over five minutes then your utility bill will go through the roof. They are energy hogs so be prepared for an outrageous energy bill.

Do you have any hints for closing an above ground pool? I live in Hawaii up at 1700ft elevation, so it gets chilly at night. During the winter, it rains and gets very windy, which drops the pool temperature into the 60°s. We rarely use the pool in the winter and would love to close it. I haven't closed it ever because people say that it will be a green mess if I try. 🤔 they tell me that the water has to go below 60's to kill algae, and although we go into the 60°'s on some nights, it very rarely goes below 60°. So I would like to know how i could close my pool. 🤔🤔 thank you for any advice, suggestions, or comments.

Last year in Dallas, TX our pump was running fine but it was sucking in ice as the top layer of the pool was forming ice. We had a freezing storm by for a few days. I'm hoping putting a solar pool cover will help or a black corrugated plastic hose in the pool will prevent icing up.

you guys are a f lunatics, run the motor 24hours/7days a week u must be getting checks from the electric companies, u r insane, calculate the pool size/pump size/pipes sizes/filter size and see how long it will take to get all the water from the pool to go through the filter and be done, crazy talk 24/7 a week.

I’m confused. Every pool closing kit I have ever seen says to add chemicals while the pump is still running to distribute the chemicals. Could someone explain? Thanks.

Just over 4 years. I am noticing cracking along the fold where the cover sits on the lifter bar. Will get a new one in the spring I guess. It should survive this winter.

Great video, and thanks for posting! If you have a gunite tanning ledge, should you drain the water so the tanning ledge has water still above it, or can the tanning ledge be above the water line when closing a pool? I've heard that you should keep water level high enough that the tanning ledge is still covered by water over the winter. But if I lower the water level to below the skimmer level, the tanning ledge will be above the water level. ??

I think it depends on the material of the surface of your tanning shelf. I've heard of people lowering the water below it and also some people haven't had an issue with ice freezing on their shelf (apparently). We, admittedly don't have a ton of experience with this ourselves

Pump will not come on it. Only clicks when pushing the on button on control panel. Good control panel. Be bad? I switched out the motor
