This was probably the best video I've seen for this system. That being said, I think the first example, more specifically the wording of the first example complicates things. Instead of saying "the cue ball is 4 diamonds away," simply by counting the diamonds, it's help by starting out with using the term "diamond target line." I think there is value in showing the first example but starting with it can easily confuse people newer to kicking systems.

Perfect timing Lil’ Chris. Just yesterday, I was discussing two rail kicks with a fellow league player friend. I had been visualizing these kicks but knew I’d better become more accurate with them. In showing my friend how I use visualization only, we both felt it would be better to search KZbin for a more accurate/strong “two rail aiming system”. Fast forward to today and BAM…you answered our search before either of us even tried. I really like what you’re showing us in your video LC and have shared it with my friend, I can’t wait to begin nailing down this powerful system on my own table. Thanks for thoroughly describing and posting on this subject…👍🏻💪🏻😊

I use my different numbers for the short rail when shooting a two rail kick. The corner is 0 and the first diamond is 4 with 2 & 3 falling in between and spaced evenly. I use no side spin. This allows me to adapt the system for 2 rail banks as well as kicks.

I’ve seen at least 5 Plus 2 Systems described, starting with Dr. Cue’s wonderful kicking video. Yours is the most clear,, especially the way you describe the sight lines with the CB out from the rail. Anthony Beeler’s Spot on the Wall does the same thing and I’ll compare the two in the next few days. Thanks again, Utah Bob
@bobhenson14333 жыл бұрын
See my earlier post. For CBs that are away from the rail, I compared your “track” method to Anthony Peeler’s “spot on the wall” method. I found no difference in the results. Since I have used the Plus 2 method for years and the numbering system is 2nd nature, I’ll stay with your method. Again, as many of the comments say, your explanation is simple, easy to understand and use.

Good video as usual. Around 14:30 one sidenote to add is that table models and conditions often dictate how much adjustment you actually need. In my experience, 7' Diamond tables are often slightly "off system" compared to, for example, 7' Valley tables. Kicks often run shorter on Diamond tables than most tables. (as high as 1 diamond!) So, one could either adjust the target on the rail or, as you mentioned, adjust the spin.

Another question. In almost all of the examples, the target 8-ball is positioned right by the corner. At 8:00 you gave an example of how you adjust the shot to take into account the 8-ball being slightly to the right of the pocket, but still on the short rail. How would you adjust the shot if the 8-ball was not on the short rail and instead 1 or 2 diamonds into the table?
@LilChrisPoolPlayer3 жыл бұрын
You at least know the line the cue ball will go as it comes off the second rail, so you can see if the ghost ball to the object is on that line. Otherwise, make adjustments as necessary. You can also use the Midpoint 2-Rail Kicking System, which I will cover in a later video.

In the segment, beginning about 6:35, would it not also be correct to say: " Relative to the original situation (ball at the pocket on track #1), for each diamond moved on the long rail, the track number decreases by 1 diamond (to kick shorter off the 2nd rail) and for each full diamond (target, not ball) moved out along the short rail, the track line increases by one (to kick longer off the second rail). Oooops. I think I see the problem with my math, IF, by moving the OB (target) two diamonds out along the short rail, the target line becomes the #4 track (twice the shift in the example), as the starting point to count tracks to the CB position. In that case, in your example (CB position), that would put you on the #7 track line which pushes the limits of the system and likely needs at bit of further adjustment.

I'm a little confused: At the 2:27 mark of this video, you began measuring the distance against the long rail to the cue ball from the corner pocket/8 ball (in order to surmise the contact point on the short rail you'd first kick the cue ball off of). This part I get. Then, you started with that corner pocket as the 1st diamond and stopped at the distance of the 4th diamond (the one before the center pocket, or 5th diamond). BUT... the cue ball is apparently positioned between the center pocket (the 5th diamond) and the 6th diamond... So, in my mind, I would have counted the distance/measurement on the long rail to be AT LEAST on/near the 5th diamond (center pocket) and not the fourth as you did in this demonstration. Could you please clarify or correct my confusion?! ...I can only guess that when you chose the 4th diamond as the mark for the distance the cue ball would be gauged from the corner pocket/8 ball, you were taking into account the slight spin/speed/cue ball contact location you were about to use in order to kick the cue ball successfully into the 8 ball....
@LilChrisPoolPlayer2 жыл бұрын
Did you get to the part where I started showing the diamond track lines? Sometimes with the placement of the cue ball, you can get away with just counting diamond distances. However, it's just better to use the diamond track lines. There were 2 demonstrations that I did where the cue ball "appears to be X diamonds" away, but when you count using the diamond track lines you get a more accurate measurement of how far the cue ball is from the objective spot to kick to.

Finally a good explanation! Thank you 💪💪 one question. When the ball I want to hit is not in the rail, but in the middle of the table, how do I decide from which diamond to start the count? Is it the first one after the 90 degree projection to the long rail and playing with the spin?

Brilliantly exlained. Must get on the pool table right away while it's fresh in my mind
@alanharris3277 Жыл бұрын
Love the cue swipe to change the numbers :). Most always, 2 rail kick systems are demonstrated with the Cue Ball (CB) positioned fairly close to a long rail and the Object Ball (OB) positioned at either a corner pocket or frozen to a rail, perhaps a diamond or two adjacent to that corner pocket (with appropriate adjustments). I'd love to see what adjustments (cue ball contact/speed/aim or track line) you'd consider if say, the CB is at 2,6 at one end (foot rail end) and the OB is at 2,3 at the other end (head rail end). I think both tracks should be well within the limits of the system. .

Hot tip: You have to watch through the whole video to understand the system. What he says about "Four diamonds away from the cue ball" in the beginning isn't what it sounds like, and he explains that further at around 6:00 . Speed and spin are also important - you have to watch the entire video to "get it."

Chris, after watching this vid and a few others from other billiards channels, it seems to me that one thing the billiards community needs is a means by which to quantify the striking force required for any given shot. Such a tool would allow players to compare play on one table from another and would be very helpful in making this and any other shooting sytem repeatable on different tables.With regards to shot making, how hard is hard and how soft is a soft varies from player to player and table to table, such a quantifiable measurement would allow players and coachs to communicate for more effectivly than they currently can. Billiards needs its own version of scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7.
@Wuzzysbrand063 жыл бұрын
One way my coach used to quantify the force was in terms of the force needed for the cueball to travel from one short rail to the other and back and have it stop just at the rail (so basically like a lag shot, i.e. the ball travels two table lengths). As a beginner, I was surprised at how little force is actually needed for that. It's very easy to overshoot and have the ball bounce of the second rail pretty far. He told me that most beginners strike way too hard. Once you get used to the "lag force" as your "standard shot" you can basically describe shots like "half force" or "one and a half force" which would be the cueball traveling one table length or three table lengths respectively. The issue with this though is that it depends on the table (felt/size) and the weight of your cue, so basically you have to practice that shot a lot and get used to it. You can't really explain to a beginner how much force is needed. I'm not sure if others use this system, but it helped me during my training sessions, as my coach would say stuff like "that's a half force shot", so I had the basic idea already.

this is a good video. very informative. however, I use the two rail "spot on the wall". I go to the right side of the table and sight a line from the third diamond to the diamond to the left of center on the head rail, your #3 spot. I find my "spot" in the distance and shoot to the "spot" using the same running english and pocket speed. It's very effective and deadly.

I love this shot. Even getting close is respectable (I need more spin and a firmer hit). One question, though. I understand the second short rail is half a diamond because mirroring the long rail the cue ball should head for the first "ghost" diamond below the corner pocket. That is five diamonds from the cue ball (4 along the long rail and the mirror diamond below the corner). But, when you stroke the cue ball toward the 5th (middle) diamond on the first short rail, the cue ball moved toward the first diamond (two half diamonds) from the corner. Not the half diamond which is five diamonds from the cue ball. The half diamond on the second short rail is the track from one to the opposite corner. So, you add one diamond to your cue ball position from the corner. Never mind, I think I see it. The 8 ball is actually two half diamonds from the corner along a track to the second "ghost" diamond. But, that's six diamonds from the cue ball position along the mirror long rail. Do you count the second short rail as whole diamonds? I never have much lock shooting at the second short rail. Thanks.
@RoobieRhoo2 жыл бұрын
Okay, watching again, you are shooting from the track line along third diamond to five on the first short rail, not from the side pocket as it appears. So, yes, you are five diamonds from the second "ghost" diamond (target) below the corner, and the cue ball will hit the first whole diamond on the second short rail. So, we count half diamonds along the second short rail. Makes sense. Two half diamonds on the short rail is two whole diamonds along the mirror long rail. Then three diamonds up the long rail is five.

Form fundamentals can be done at home without a table, but anything else really is going to involve table time. People talk about practicing visualization. Visualize the shots, the line up, and the execution but that doesn't account for environment/table conditions. You got to be able to see the actual results on the table and learn to make any appropriate adjustments as necessary. Hope that helps!
