It's a crossing which will only be safer if the public actually paid attention to all the signs. I mentioned I think that while I was there an elderly group of people stopped and started talking while stood on the crossing and only moved when the crossing was activated

thomas charles Nope. Even people don't realize how dangerous it is even being on/around the tracks! When I was in high school, I saw a good number of people who would walk home along the mainline behind the school, despite the fact that a guy got killed doing just that because he got run over by a train early on in my freshman (9th grade) year of school.

do what they did in Suffolk n Essex closed it build a green foot bridge and they cant cut across

Michael Kemp that is a good idea but wouldn't work for the area. There is very limited space at the crossing which means a bridge would be a hard to build
