I learned ghost ball from espn in the 90s and grew up in pool halls. Was AMAZED that one single answer represents the final answer FOR ALL SHOTS. It allowed me to prevail and not require calculus.

Thanks for this. I have always had a hard time visualizing the ghost ball. The poolology system is an incredible eye opener for players starting out (and maybe even for those that are still having a hard time finding the aim point). I know everyone eventually shoots by feel but I agree with you. This system brings you there much faster.

Matt. That was awesome. I got Brian's book for Christmas, finished it on Saturday, made 15x30 foam board diagrams for my wall for each of the zones, and immediately noticed a serious boost in my confidence behind the CB. Kudos to Brian. I hope to connect with him personally one day. But upon his recommendation, I found your video. What a nice contribution you've made to poology. Thank you so much.

Good video. I'm on the fence about picking up the poolology book; aiming systems are fun, but the danger is the "game" can become the calculation of the aiming system instead of the actual game on the table. Aligning to the contact point isn't usually that hard, you stand behind the object ball and pocket and see where you need to aim for the contact point then you execute with consistent, proper mechanics. My experience in pool is you need to think less not more, turn your brain off and get into the zone; aiming systems tend to interrupt the subconscious flow. In my opinion, cue control is much more important; make every shot simple with good cue ball position.

Matt - as a frustrated level 4 pool player and not feeling like I am getting any better I need to change my aiming system or more precisely come up WITH an aiming system and I have now spent a week on Fractional Aiming. I have the poolology book and have it 1/2 way read and really appreciate your video here. I for one will be committed to the system and devouring your videos for the next several months digesting and applying. I would like to set up my table for practicing these shots like you have at 13:48-15:50 but I am a bit confused as to how to lay out the dots. Do you have a more detailed video on just this aspect on setting up the dots?

Watch the Art of Poolology video to see a better illustration of the dots for practicing a 25 yd line shot. You could pick any location on the table to setup a “practice” dot…after all an OB could end up anywhere, but the other dots for setting up the CB dot are always anywhere along the CB-OB-Golf Tee line. And the Golf Tee locations are always fractions of the OB yard-line relative to the pocket. Once you get the concept setting up the Golf Tees the CB dots will be easy. I promise.

15:50 _Perfect system..._ There is still execution and the complexities, like speed throw deflection etc. So even if there was a book that told us "the algorighm of golf/tennis/baseball," you still have to execute and that is a variable of its own. So execution is fun to watch and is a variable obviously.

You can see this clearly when you play online pool with aim guidelines. Effectively, every player has nearly perfect aim. When I play, it is obvious if my opponent has never really played pool on a physical table. While almost everyone can cut thin end to end shots even professionals will miss but you can spot non real pool players when they shoot simple shots with no regard for position on the next shots.

I've sparred with Brian on his videos. I laugh that ghost ball is use TO REFER TO HIS SYSTEM. I laugh because ghost ball is THE ANSWER. And his system sets up an different system that still requires visualization TO PROVE his system. GHOST BALL IS THE ONE ANSWER that eliminates "systems." Study ghost ball if you don't know it and you'll laugh at how many systems are set up just to mimic it.

Your a great teacher. Unfortunately most people can't calculate the problem while shooting with a legal 30 second limit, I learned similar formulas when studying accounting.

No. I don’t. He hit so many balls and played so many games he never needed to…he can just see it and feel it (right brain…like most top pros) which is superior as long as you have the time to hit a million balls. Nevertheless you have to start somewhere so you have a baseline for what you visualize and how to adjust accordingly. Beating balls randomly with no base reference will slow the process dramatically.

What people don't understand is the only part of the ball that even matters is the part of the ball that in your perception of your few at that angle that is touching the table for the ball to go straight to that angle then the part that is coming up off the table makes the ball turn see I told you I use it in a different way but I understand what you are saying because I use it all the time I just use the bottom of the ball because it is something that is always there and you can always see it once you get out to a 1/8 hit or 1/16 hit then of course you only use the side of the ball or the edge of the ball which in reality does not exist because it's a spear so there are no edges

Everyone is looking for "the system" including me. I learned with ghost ball in my teens. After watching several convoluted systems (including Brian's), I've found that ghost ball is the answer. If you don't even play that much, the memory required in these systems is laughable. Yet Brian brags on his systems because half ball hit (the easiest since half ball hit has a direct aiming point of object ball edge) is great for noobies is great..... And ghost ball requires visualization. And 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 etc require visualization and memorization. And when you add deflection and throw and english, forget it.......... Ghost ball is arithmetic and systems become calculus for the advanced player.... I think systems are "pros designing basic math for beginners," because the system guys NEVER tell me ghost ball is wrong or bad, and advocate their system for a noobie off the street. AKA they sell gimmicks.

Ghost ball is one reference, this calculus of remembering which fraction is 1 million times more difficult than "imagine this ball" vs "imagine 1/8 or 3/8 ball or 7/8 ball. These systems are so a pro could sell something to novices.
