The parallels that you keep on highlighting are mind-blowing! Here in the North of Thailand, we also have this kind of dish, but with the f sound in the name. We pronounce it "pia" and it is an absolute bile fest! Well done yet again on bringing this otherwise very unusual food in your very open-minded and respectful manner. Cheers very much, Andrew.

Hey Andy, We all have had to eat a little 💩💩in our lives. And the taste was probably just as bitter. How strong is the Rice 🌾 wine, and how do you call it wine with no grapes. Let's admit that it's just homemade Hootch 🍸. Seeya Next Time ✝️🙏🕊️
@Andrew_Fraser5 ай бұрын
Hahaha, yeah, the term “rice wine” has always made little sense to me. But it is used universally as the go-to translation in Asia for everything from sake and mijiu to Cheongju. Even though the making process is usually much closer to beer. This particular drink was actually made from cassava, so I was completely off (that part didn’t make the edit). It was neither wine nor made from rice. Rice “wine’s” ABV is usually around 15-20%. Much closer to wine than beer, so maybe ‘rice wine’ was originally a convenient shorthand for that side of things and then it just stuck. In Vietnam, it comes in the widest possible range of ABVs though, with some versions being distilled and mixed with fruits or corn (more like moonshine), and others made just like beer. Some of the minorities even drink it directly from the fermenting grain jars and you can drink that stuff almost water.

The cow/goat dung soup is the equivalent of "Pinapaitan or Papaitan" in the Philippines. It's delicious depending on how it is prepared, It's mostly popular in the norther part of Luzon and in Visayas/Cebu. You should try it here to see the similarities and difference.

Haha. You straight eat the meat with poops. People do not eat it alone. They mix it with rice and pepper and usually the quantity eaten is less than a bowl. Or just like a bowl of miso. It’s food to be shared. But good job for eating it though. 😅

Eating organs is also really good for our health but it has to be clean and fresh I don’t know why they assume that the grass digested by the cow gives an interesting unique flavor . It looks like it smell really bad.
