Yeah, I remember watching a programme about a Chinese farm that raised Bamboo Rats as well and it was pretty well run. It seems like the animal is easy to raise, reproduces well in captivity, and, well, easy to feed. Frankly, I think the concerns are probably to do with parasites and, I'd wager, that the bamboo rats could become invasive species in other countries. That's my guess at least.

@@Fledermausmannif it's eating nothing but bamboo than you don't gotta worry about parasites other than from cross contamination. Ultraviolet radiation in sunlight at low doses prevents vitamin D deficiency, whilst prolonged exposure is carcinogenic. Visible light is considered harmless, until you focus it at a point and it burns your skin. Water, a vital and arguably the safest and healthiest thing you can consume, will kill you if you ingest too much, too quickly. Organic farmers use agricultural 30% acetic acid as weed killer, we call 5% acetic acid solutions that we eat 'vinegar'. You need to suit up when spraying 30% acetic acid on plants because it's harmful to humans when it gets on the skin, eyes or lungs, and yet you would be perfectly happy to eat crops grown in areas treated with agricultural acetic acid because it is either safe to ingest or breaks down rapidly into harmless products in the soil. Farmers need to suit up because very often chemicals and chemical by-products that are safe to ingest, are not safe at high concentrations and prolonged exposure. The dose makes the poison and this is why it's perfectly fine to eat food grown by a farmer who has to use PPE during spraying. Don't be one of those people that eat up low IQ, two bit dramatic fear mongering by 'mother earth knows best' authority figures that latch onto the 1% of bad that comes out of the 99% of amazing scientific advancement to horticultural sciences, it really is for your own good to realise that just because a loved one raises your blood pressure occasionally, that ultimately you are healthier with one than without one, and taking the advice of whatever incel or femcel that is in vogue nowadays is just going to make you both miserable and stupid.
