@Dylan Edwards despite how well articulated the sentiment is, it still manages to be an understatement. No offense intended. There just are no words you know. I guess I'm doing a real shitti job of saying I agree wholeheartedly. ~the only reason we secretly worship Devin Townsend is because he would be really uncomfortable if he knew. Shhh! @Jimbus Rift I'm gonna have to RESPECTFULLY disagree with you there. I don't think either is intrinsically more masculine or feminine. But while a dress says "I'm wearing a dress", the tutu says "I'm wearing a tutu, and it's awesome, and I'll punch you in the face if it bothers you." In other words, far more epic.

If more people could hear that first Devin song that speaks to them - I honestly believe that we could make the world a better place for all. I know that we all have at least one Devin song that touched your soul. It could be angry, aggressive, chaotic, inspiring, loving, spiritual. Songs about loving each other and the realization that the brightest light can shine into your darkness. Slow progress, is still progress - that lyric speaks volumes. Being very honest with his battle with mental illness and producing the most epic concert is space, as an anti-suicide song and video, Spirits Will Collide. Cheers

"Why?" is the song that got me actually listening to the album. Empath came out at the lowest point of my life. I was so depressed I didn't care about not being depressed anymore, and I figured the best thing I could give my family was my life insurance. So I refused to fully listen to it. After hearing "genesis" I sort of knew that this album would be able to pull me out of my slump but I didn't want to fight anymore. My ex wife saved me instead, and when I got out of the hospital, she wasn't there for me but Devin was. This man has surely saved many lives and improved many more with his music. I know he doesn't read KZbin comments, and has good reasoning not too, but I hope he knows just how grateful so many of us are for him.

Life is a funny. I first heard of my fellow Vancouverite Devin Townsend in 1993 when he was the vocalist for Steve Vai. Sex & Religion was not a successful album but I loved it. Grunge was taking over, the music I loved was dying. I spent the next three decades searching for good music. It's been hard to find. Meanwhile, off of my radar, Devin was producing music like THIS and I totally missed it. So last week I go see Dream Theater and Devin is opening. I know that name! I was floored. Devin stole the show (partially because LaBrie can't sing anymore). The bright side of missing Devin all these years is I get to discover him now. This song is going to be part of the soundtrack of my life. Thank you Devin.

I had attempted to listen to Empath when it was released, and I don’t think I was ready for it mentally. Sometimes it takes me awhile for my brain to click with stuff. I knew I would love it eventually, just needed the right time. After listening to his podcasts, I found myself knowing Devin better than I ever had before, and needing to inject my soul with his music again. I put on Empath. This song in particular blew my mind. I actually got home and proclaimed to the Mrs. that I had just heard the greatest song of all time. She was doing the dishes. Didn’t seem impressed. Anyway, Dev, you’re brilliant, hilarious, fun, beautiful, and pretty dang alright. Thank you for this.
