He’s amazing! And I do wish to be a voice on, Disney stuff, and he would destroy it. But that’s not him. Would love that in my time. Loved everything he did, and just go hey kids he played this Disney character, but when they get older, check out this stuff(his music n stuff) 😮. lol. Sorry just live Dev and he makes good albums.

YES! This made me so happy :D Devin is such a delight and you watching him is another delight! We need more more MORE! Edit: You should also watch his quarantine concert version of Why? that is just him singing with a backing track. The album version is very disney-esque with an orchestra and a choir. This tour he wanted to keep everything as organic as possible without backing tracks etc. This was super fun version and I haven't seen anyone react to this before. I saw Devin on his Empath tour in Turku (Finland) and he was amazing. He descriped this tutu as "I have two skirts. The other one covers the balls and then there's this." :D I love him, he's an endless source of every emotion imaginable.

When I saw the title of this video I knew you'd enjoy it, regardless of which version you picked. You didn't disappoint, I had tears rolling down my cheeks together with you on the beep part. If he ever has a concert in Glasgow, I highly recommend checking him out live. Thanks so much for checking it out and the interesting vocal info!

Thanks Sam - What a wonderful surprise! This whole concert was one of the greatest experiences that all of these hand picked musicians and vocalists ever had before. You are the best at explaining and helping us to understand more in technical terms without dumbing things down. For decades Devin's stance at the microphone with guitar is always one foot forward and his other planted behind him - when he digs in, that's how he controls his diaphragm and can hold his notes for a ridiculous amount of time. I saw a whole vlog of his Transendence tour where he broke his ankle and he had to wear a big walking cast. He was having some difficulty because he couldn't push the way he always had. Cheers

I would’ve preferred the quarantine version that he did in his basement… But I guess I’ll grudgingly accept this. It is the contrast between his epic a vocals and just being in his house, plus him playing around with his toy octopus in the climax of the song that made that so much more special, LMAO.
@randalljones43702 жыл бұрын
I agree... the Quarantine-version is why we now have an identical-yet-slightly larger Octopus, high on top of the clinical cabinets, looking down on the patients.

I saw this set back in 2020 in the Corona Theatre in Montreal. It was his third night of playing, having done one show in that theatre two days prior, then one in Toronto, then back to Montreal for the third. He had a meet and greet before the show, and must have been exhausted. When it came to Why, he didn't even bother leaving the stage. Stage hand just ran up with the tutu, he pulled his jeans off, stuck the tutu on, and ran around on stage in his boxers. The encore was Disco Inferno. It was an incredible show, and I wish he would believe in himself a little more and player larger NA venues. He never does big shows outside Europe as he doesn't think they'd sell.

First let me say how much I love the ratio of your videos. Usually the reactor is full screen and the performer is related to something where you need a magnifying glass to see what their reacting to. On your videos , you can see both you and the performer without moving your eyes. Most of the other reaction videos are just ego, nothing else. I would love to see your reaction and comments about a voice, and that would be David Phelps. The video is Bill & Gloria Gaither - Oh Holy Night (live) featuring David Phelps. Your comments are always so spot on. I would love to hear yours about this artist.

Sam, a quick question - your description of fry scream - if the vical chords ate just kinda hanging slack, how is it possible to create a pitch ?
@SSTVocalCoach2 жыл бұрын
That’s a very hard question to answer quickly 😂 Basically, we can assign terms to the way vocal folds behave (chest voice, head voice, fry etc) and many assume these are kind of locked in registers with no wiggle room, but the whole process is one big spectrum, so you can thin out thicker folds (mix) or add a touch of fry onto thick to make subharmonics. With fry as well, we also have larynx height to influence the sound, sub glottal pressure and many other wee tools to apply to make some of these more extreme sounds we hear in metal. It’s a combination of many factors that makes a fry scream, and they can be employed in different values/ ways, which is why a lot of these screaming gods sound so different from one another. I hope any of that made sense 😅😅😅 it’s a VERY big topic.
@Crabfather2 жыл бұрын
@@SSTVocalCoach yeah that does make sense, thank you :-) so basically pitch can be created many different ways, by tightness or volume.. Among others.. Man it's the hardest instrument to get your head around. I'm stuck with a crappy larynx that clicks into higher registers 🙄
