If a nurse or doctor acted like this, I would strongly suggest a different career, Being a nurse myself this video made me cringe. The stigma, the lack of empathy, the "you'll get over it" and assuming someone's life hasn't been "so bad" based on notes...ALL WRONG!

So similar to a new counselor I was going to see. Yeahhh, triggering as hell. One of my core triggers is invalidating communication. Ding, ding, ding. Wow. I was a nurse and I tried my darndest to LISTEN (and hear the messages behind what was being said too)!! It’s so vitally important. Communication is complex enough, so much missed…even without all this dismissal, invalidation and MISSING THE BOAT.

Instead of asking why or saying you’ll get over it, ask what causes the depression or how often you feel depressed. What triggers the depression? If on medication, just ask if she’s had any changes or side effects.

half the nurses who work in mental health communicate this way. It us so difficult for patients to be in a situation where the staff lacks empathy.

Definitely. A therapist is supposed to show a healthy example of communication, validation and mirroring. They are supposed to help you honor yourself, teach you to speak up for your needs and boundaries…not violate them!! The Personal Development School, Alan Robarge, and Therapy in a nutshell…all here on KZbin, have helped me more than 6 previous therapists. I now have a good one, finally…but some were terrible. I wish you healing, peace, and connection 💫💛
