Sir that's Exactly what the inside of my old Daiwa 7350rl reel looked like when I opened it last night before i cleaned it after buying it at a rummage sale.I just wish you could have done a part 2 on this and showed how and where exactly to place the new grease and oil.Im so happy to have found your video because I searched all night for a video with any reel similar to mine and found this to be the closest.Thank you.-Frank.

"like" all your vids Dennis. Great stuff. Got one of those on flea-bay. Opened her up to find 5 times the grease of many different colors. Good part was that after 3 hours of dis assembly and cleaning most of the parts looked new !

That is awesome! Most of the old reels that turn poorly can be restored just the way you did it. Thanks for the note - Dennis

Grease aside, the internals of that reel look well designed and solid, I bet once that beauty was cleaned and sorted out it would be a joy to use.
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
Yes it was a solid reel and it did clean up nicely. Thanks for watching - Dennis

Those Mitchells are bulletproof! But like in all of your videos show proper maintenance is needed once in a while! I love those old Mitchells! I got a few that are older than me and work better! CMTFU!

I've got a pile too! I've been trying to do one a day to restore a bunch of the 300s that have been sitting around way to long. Great reels. Take care - Dennis

By far the best oil to use on reels is ISO 32 46 and 64 hydraulic fluid. Or you can use the food grade mineral oil from the store. Both are mineral oil and they wont hurt plastic. I think peoples biggest problem is they dont realize oils wont dissolve salt.

Well, looks like I’m taking my Mitchell 302 apart since I just greased it last night and I guess I over greased it. Good to know
@2ndChanceTackle9 ай бұрын
You can fish it for now. The big issue is when the grease gets old and dries up or accumulates debris. Dennis

It almost looks like Cal’s but this is bad. It’s not that bad looking for a 302. I have two and I love them!

It does! The reel is a nice one once it is cleaned up

Great content and very comprehensive information. I have an old green DAM Berlin West Quick I need to repair. It spins very slow and the bail wire loop doesn’t engage after casting and reeling. Do you still do repairs as a business?
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
Yes I do. Please send a note to my email 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com for repair information - thanks for asking - Dennis

Hey it's possible to switch handles from left to wright on that 302??
@garrettlauzon16562 жыл бұрын
No, vintage mitchell reels were not convertible. If you're right handed, you have to buy an even numbered model. If you're left handed, you have to buy an odd numbered model

Hey you know penn reels inside out , and prices for many years , How much are most penn reels ?? I would say about 50 $ But you can tell me a real price Thanks
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
Condition and model is everything Rey. If you are asking about conventional reels like the Beachmaster, Jigmaster and others, they can range from $5 to $50 for poor to very good ones. The average should be around $20-$25 in good condition. Senators depend on size but 4/0 to 6/0 should run $50 is good condition and could go higher. The 10/0 and above will be in the $100s as they are both collectable and desirable. Spinning reels like the silver series sell for a few dollars. Used Fierce and Pursuits in good condition $15-$25. Used Battles $30. and so on. If you are asking about a specific model, leave a note and I will try to be more specific - Thanks for asking - Dennis

How do you clean that old grease out of that or any other reel? I have a old record reel I'd like to clean up and it's packed with old nasty grease.
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
I usually spray it down with a penetrating oil to soften the grease and let it sit for a while before I work with cotton swabs, small screw drivers and picks to remove the hardened mess. - Dennis
@peterlepore27265 жыл бұрын
did you spray degreaser directly into reel body
@2ndChanceTackle5 жыл бұрын
I do spray the internal parts with degreaser if needed. I always make sure to wipe it clean before doing the lubrication and oiling. - Dennis
@derrickdzurko20684 жыл бұрын
Dennis, so...how do you get that kind of grease off the gears? WD-40? or what's best?
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
I use a penetrating oil like WD40 as a degreaser. It is a combination of scrapping, solvents, drying rinse and repeat. I have tried ultrasonic cleaners, but they are ineffective when the grease is thick and dried. - Dennis

What do you use to clean reel and what grease?
@2ndChanceTackle6 жыл бұрын
I use a combination degreaser and cleaner called Purple Power. It is in a spray bottle and generally available at auto stores and Wal*Mart

How do you feel about vasoline as reel grease
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
It is a petroleum product and folks do use it. It evaporates quickly and dries out faster that reel grease. I don't recommend it because of that. Reel grease is cheap. A small container, enough for several reels is just a few dollars. Well worth it in time saved and peace of mind. Thanks for asking - Dennis

I've used petroleum jelly. Find a real at a garage sale or a swap meat stiff don't wanna work clean it out I put petroleum jelly in it Last foreve Don't get srif . this works
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't get the same results with the petroleum jejjy - I find it evaporates quickly and holds dirt, which becomes abrasive. Dennis
@ewaynesturgillo83922 жыл бұрын
Why mostly freshwater fish. And petroleum jelly is good for metal on metal You have a real with bearings You need to use An oil because petroleum jelly has a higher Temperature melting point but it's very good with older reels with Gears

I have seen too many reels fail because of this. The #1 failure is no lubrication. The 2nd is too much lube. Go figure! - Dennis

I'm betting that's lithium grease
@2ndChanceTackle6 жыл бұрын
That's what I am thinking. If it is good for car locks, it must be good for reels! Also - it may have been a spray as that would overload it. Thanks - Dennis
@wayned58726 жыл бұрын
2nd Chance Tackle I've never seen spray lithium grease but not saying it don't exist, I'll stick with synthetic grease for my PENNS
@2ndChanceTackle6 жыл бұрын
The spray is sold in automotive stores and is intended for use on door hinges, window tracks and gears, and other hard to reach spaces. Once sprayed, it foams and forms a gel similar to what was shown in the reel. I don't recommend it for fishing reels. - Dennis

So... putting mustard in your reel isn't a good thing? Lol
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. It that like Reel Butter? I think mustard is better on pretzels and hot dogs. Save it for them! Dennis
