In the Netherlands we have an organisation that sponsors families around the world with similar kind of problems like this. it's called Plan Nederland. The contributors can sponsor a child, and sometimes the contribution goes to a complete village with a monthly contribution. I myself am a sponsor of 2 children around the world. They give updates on the progress of the child. they help out up to a certain age. I am not sure they also have an office in Laos. I think they have, or had one in Vietnam.

Harriet and I cried . It's heartbreaking to see this beautiful young girl not given a chance to have a better life. Is it possible to set up a bank account for this child and donate money for her well being and caring. Perhaps a foundation set up in her name that we can all contribute to. We don't want this child to ever lose her smile. Bless this little girl. Todd and Neenee, you are telling a story that needs to be told. Sending you much love for what you do.🙏❤🙏 Jim and Harriet. @@SeeHang it is the same in the Philippines. My late wife adopted her cousin, a baby boy, when she was only a student. He was very sick and she nursed him back to health. Todd mentioned in another comment that the grandmother doesn't actually want to adopt the child out, just wants someone to raise the child (in other words, the grandmother wants someone to take on the financial burden of raising the girl for her). She still wants to keep her granddaughter and be able to see her whenever and wherever. I don't think this type of situation would work for most people. You are essentially financially supporting a child until that child is old enough to care for herself and goes back to her family. Few people can afford to be this generous without the perk of having the child be a permanent part of their life.

In helping that young girl, my aim would be to find ways of helping her grandmother and village look after her, which would enable her to remain with her family. Direct financial assistance will only distort the local economy and can often breed resentments from other villagers. It's a heart-wrenching situation but one which is repeated too often here in Laos and other poorer countries. I'm sure you will both make the right decision. Perhaps some local aid groups could provide some useful advice. Good luck and best wishes.

That beautiful little girl pulls at your heartstrings. So many children are in the same boat. After some difficulty (scary situations) doing charity work on our own, my husband and I went with sponsorship for children in Guatemala through Childreach and also worked with Ninos Incapacitados in Mexico. Legitimate foundations seem to be a viable solution. Could a program be set up in that area where a trusted person/government official/possibly a monk? would have responsibility of financial distribution to families with accounting for who and where it is going? Thank you and good luck with this!
@MalMilligan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, beautiful little girl and yeah there are many many kids there that couldn't do better than to have nice foster parents like yourselves. But it's a lifelong commitment and you would feel guilty helping her and not her siblings. Plus yeah maybe you can help fix the visitation rights for NeeNee first. I spent 30 years visiting Vietnam... was married in a pagoda in Saigon in 1996. I have 2 children that were born and raised in the New York City area. I got divorced after 10 years of marriage and raised the kids with my dad as a single father. Kids are adults now and on their own after completing College. There are intricacies about these local cultures that I still learn on a daily basis 30 years into this. I like having very little baggage right now as it allows me time to work on projects. I hope to help my family first and then others God willing. I think I know partially how you feel Todd. Good luck buddy !!

Hi Guy's Well this vlog is different, and clearly covers an important and difficult subject, that is to say how to help without causing unexpected negative consequences. I think polecat's idea of a crowd funding is a good one, perhaps with a set annual budget that would help all the kids in the village, as opposed to money just going to one family. Jealousy in Lao villages can be particularly nasty from my experience of the one I live in.

Always have made it a point to mention to parents when they would call they children step- and differentiate in mixed family. If you go to the store you don't buy food except for ALL YOUR CHILDREN,.... A MOM that Adopts a Child or Fosters a Child is the highest form of Motherhood and a special place in Heaven is made for them so they children can find them there.

Hey there Todd, my wife has a similar story to the little girl. She was born in 1967 and due to the advancing communists killing the locals in the Xebanghiang area around the end of the Vietnam war, the family was split and she was placed with a family in Thailand. Westerners may think splitting up the families for survival or for a chance of a (much) better life are isolated incidents, but it happens more than you think. I understand your explanation Todd and I appreciate the way you describe the reality. Even in what would seem a more straightforward situation when a farang/foreigner wants to assist the family of their Lao, Thai, Viet partner or spouse it can turn into a difficult situation. The expectations of the immediate and extended family sometimes can put pressure on the spouse to be stuck in the middle and expected to advocate for the legitimate needs of their family. I am not wanting to be cynical but that can often just be how assistance plays out. Hopefully this sweet girl and her family can be offered some help but how exactly is the best way is hard to know.
