Poor Man’s Drill Press. An Alternate Tool To A Bench Drill.

I would love a bench drill but at the moment I do t have either the space for one or the available funds due to wanting to buy so much for the workshop.
In this video I look at a cheap alternative. A small hand held adapter for the drill that will mimic the action of a press.

It looks like one of those bits of kit you end up never quite liking but use all the time. Interesting review to see it working. I have a drill press but obviously can't use it more than 6" from the edge of wood. Nice editing!

I very much appreciate this video! I've been looking at hand held drill presses for a couple of days now. I know £20 is not a lot but I didn't want to spend it for it not to work at all. Like you said it's cheap materials because it's cheap! I think I'll still keep torturing myself by looking at drill presses I can't afford!

My heads been a merry-go-round between this and a drill press. I’ve used it a few more times since I filmed this and it does work. The big question I I think between to two options is what would you be drilling through mainly. If it’s sheet goods or anything too wide for a drill press then this is your tool. If you are drilling through thinner strips then I would save for a proper drill press. Thanks for watching mate. It’s appreciated.

I nearly got something like this, then the Bosch PBD40 came on sale and removed the need. The ultimate test of one of these jigs is can it drill a straight hole. Pop a dowel into a fresh hole nad place a square against it. Should be able to do consistent 90's or you are better off freehand ;)

I can’t cut or drill straight 🤦‍♂️. I love the look of the Bosch Pilar drill as I’ve seen it in a couple of KZbinr videos. It’s on my never ending list of tools, but until then I’ll make do with this thing.

Well done mate. Just one question though, do you have room for a bench top press? It's a bit heavy but at least you could put it away when not in use. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. All the best. 👍

I have a small amount of room left, the problem is that I have multiple things I want to put there and I’m not sure that a bench drill will end up being my priority.
