Some people say that this story doesn’t really portray Batman well, but honestly I think few other Batman stories explore the ptsd from his parents as well as this. @@MrFredstt The no killing is part of the scar. He is just as insane and mentally broken as most of his rogues gallery. His broken mental state pushes him to extreme levels of paranoia, obsession, pushing his body and mind to its absolute limit in order to take on the criminal element, but pushing himself even harder to make sure he can never kill. It’s the only thing keeping him from becoming one of the monsters he fights. It’s the balance to his insanity. If he loses it, he’ll go over the edge and be for ever lost to his brokenness.

@@MrFredstt But what’s the point of that? The whole point of Batman, as far as I can tell, is that he doesn’t break and he can overcome anything with time and effort. So not killing and eventually forming the Bat-Family fits that idea. But being broken by what happened to the point he lets his flaws control his every decision would mean he has given up and isn’t any better than the villains. Plus nobody is asking for Batman to be a boy scout, but personally I’m just tired of seeing the same Batman story over and over again and I imagine many feel the same way. There’s more to Batman than being a brooding loner who yells dramatically that he is vengeance and constantly fighting the Joker.

The only thing that did that line slightly better was the scene that referenced Dark Knight Returns in The Batman/Superman Adventures. Batman, voiced by Michael Ironside says "It's an operating table" (You see Batman grab the leader's leg as lighting strikes and you hear a loud crack followed by the Mutant Leader screaming) "And I'm the surgeon."

This was the main inspiration for the Batman brought to screen by Zack Snyder, portrayed by Ben Affleck and you can see alot of the same imagery presented especially the themes. Krystal's confusion at certain phrases (this is an operating table) takes some of Frank Miller's more pretentious lines to their natural conclusion. This movie is based on the comics that made Frank Miller famous and brought a more serious tone to the comics and along with the work of Alan Moore changed DC significantly. Frank eventually lost his mind and kept writing and drawing comics. I liked Sin City by Miller.

In the original comic the two face scene has narration that tells you what's going on: Harvey beleives that he was made to look completely scarred, and that brief shot of his scarred face is batman understanding what's going on by 'seeing what he actually is', or something. Basically, rather than CURE his psychosis, it instead made it WORSE.
