This is a piece of FOG (Found On Ground) wood. Maybe some of you recognize it and can let the rest of us know what kind of wood it is.
I made a mistake early on and then had to cope with it and adjust all the way through the turning of this bowl. I hope I can remember to be more careful with my next piece! Finished in shellac.

Bradford pear. This was the base cut-off of a sucker branch which grew tight to the main trunk, so not truly a crotch piece. It came down in an ice storm several years ago and was at the curb, free to take. I sent it to Phil because I knew there was something gorgeous and unique in it, but I couldn't see it. He discovered what it wanted to become! Thank you, Phil, for revealing what an ugly chunk of firewood can be! Much like Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother...... 😜 😉 Thumbs up 👆

Nice turning Phil. I think this dish needs to sit on an end or coffee table with some nice mints in this delicate looking dish. Thanks for the show! Joel

Very nice. I just completed my very first bowl and because of people like you and The Papa 1947 and Mike Peace and Sam Angelo it was a lot easier and turned out great. If it wasn't for you all I wouldn't of got this far! Thank you.

Thanks, William! Yup, that's how I learned to turn, too! Lots of hours worth of turning videos. 😊

@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I've been watching videos for months and testing different tools. I finally got a sharpening jig and it's great. So I had some issues with the transition from bottom to the side of the bowl...not sure what happened.

It might have something to do with the grind of your gouge. My bowl gouges have a 60° bevel. That turn is always a problem but a different grind might help.

I really like seeing the holes from the wood pecker on the top. Another natural wonder. Like you said earlier about firewood. I don't look at firewood the same anymore. I see what could I make with that. Lol. Another 1 of a kind amazing piece Phil.

You sure brought out the best of that FOG wood Phil . I was on pins and needles watching you go down that bowl . That was a great save using the tenon .
