That dance scene was choreographed by the two actors the director gave them the time and the freedom to make that scene (alongside a lot of other scenes) and to just play and have fun making this beautiful film. I am glad that people are seeing this movie.

That makes it THAT much better. You can tell the chemistry was there between them, which is needed to pull that off

Please please please do not erase a choreographer or movement director’s contributions from a film or show. This is not correct and the choreographer, Constanza Macras, while she did work with the actors to find movements that felt more organic with their bodies, she was the choreographer of the film. It’s super dangerous erasing artist’s contributions by giving full credit to actors especially since award shows often do not offer accolades to choreographers (we do not have a best movement or choreography category in the Academy awards). It’s a very controversial thing amongst many artists that are in the movement direction field (stunt choreographers, fight coaches, dance choreographers, movement directors, etc.).

@@2kooldancin all I heard from the two actors was that they choreographed that scene. I know Emma was somewhat the co-writer for her character since she had a ton of creative freedom with the role.

I'm reading the book right now. Yes there's a book. The character description of Godwin shows you he's messed up. He grew up really weird. He says he made bella so he could have an Ophelia (from hamlet) who looked at him the way an actress playing Ophelia once looked on stage. They let you know from the first couple of chapters what she is and how she came to be and its this sick twisted thing you just have to live with as you continue the story.

I think the scenes where we get to look into the lenses. It’s probably “us” society looking at the harsh moments in life. The idea that we look at them and we look away because they make us uncomfortable. When something it’s presented in front of your face you can’t look away but if it’s through a lenses then we can! Also I loved your analysis!

🤔 That’s a great take! I can see that being the reason they did it. I think I might watch some of the scenes back with that POV. Bella was always being told that she wasn’t polite in societies eyes, so that would make a lot of sense.

It definitely pushed the envelope and it’s definitely one of the most uncomfortable movies to come out recently but aside from all of that the world in which the characters lived in looked so interesting like the colors and movement of everything was so beautiful.

I love the world they lived in! Even with all its strangeness, I still really enjoyed it. Loved seeing Emma in this role

I believe the fish-eye frames represents the perspective of learned behavior. When children are being chastised for example, the experience gets framed in a way that isolates the subject from the environment, as if the brain is saying this moment is important moving forward. It can seem as though the child is not paying attention but really these situations are so stressful it’s often all we remember later. These moments are when Bella and her replacement take inventory of those around them.

Most movie reviews bore me and I end up stopping halfway but I actually watched the whole 27 minutes of this video. LOVED IT!!! I've been trying to watch Poor Things but I never have time to but after watching this video I'm going to find the time to watch. Thank you 😍

Omg 😭😭 this means so much to me bc I’m still experimenting with my editing style and pacing. Thank you!! I would def say give it watch. It’s over 2 hours but I think the story is moving the entire time.

The most interesting thing I found abt this film was how much the film reflects Bella’s mind, like how sex isn’t prevalent till Bella discovers it, it’s jarring, gross and bluntly wrong. Much like how Bella finds it, showing her set up in failure. She goes through this wave of experiences and all of them are weird and archaic. I found it interesting how much of the sex gets desensitized to the viewer, much how Bella eventually becomes to it as well, and how the grossness and shockingness of it becomes unfortunately normal. I think the fish bowl effect reflects the viewer (us) lookin in on the monstrosity, it shows almost how Bella herself is a show and experiment that one would watch and see what happens.

Also wanted to add I loved your point about the fairytales! I thought abt that while watching as well, and noticed this theme of classic lit, it almost felt like I was back in HS again reading classical works, with its jarring and disturbing nature of the film

given that this was constantly advertised as a feminist retelling of Frankenstein....which is stupid since Frankenstein's existence is a feminist historical moment, but whatever, ....my issue is that its just a glorified torture *corn "born sexy yesterday" story with a tiny bit of revenge at the end to excuse the director calling it a story about feminism. Why is our main girl so perfectly pretty after such a violent death? The whole story of frankenstein was that the "monster" was too ugly on the outside for society - now its a girl who is too innocent? even though women are being taken advantage of throughout the movie and the time period they are trying to use without the addition of impossible innocence or extreme "ugliness". The entire movie can still happen without emma's character being a baby on the inside which is just more testament to this being a movie just to visually present mistreatment of women in a "appealing" way

i think there is a lot of wrong with a child having a woman's body. how much time does she spend as a child/ growing up/ learning everything. is there a point where they clearly define like yeah now she is an adult.
@naturalnaela
@naturalnaela 5 ай бұрын
She’s never an actual child. It’s just the whole brain thing. By the time we’re introduced to her she’s essentially a toddler and then very quickly moves into teenage years. It’s very fast, weeks it seems like from the way the story is told. They never actually say it but her speech def goes from babble to very clear sentences and then she goes and travels the world so it’s clear that she’s a young adult then, imo.

@@naturalnaela fluff as in romantic, cute, heartwarming, sweet. i am a hopeless romantic so yes those are the things i prefer and if they are paired with good angst, emotional turmoil, longing, reconciliation and of course a thought-out plot. there are a lot of books that i have read where the conflict doesn't even make sense, those books are specially annoying.

I really liked your review of the movie. I loved how you broke it down from the costumes to the choreography. Great work! I watched this video in order to decide if I wanted to watch it. And I can't get over the fact that this woman with an infant brain is having sex throughout the movie. It weirds me out so, I'm still not fully sold. However, I subscribed to the channel. I look forward to your future movie reviews !

Hey Cynthia! Thanks so much. I for movies like this, I usually try to talk about more than just storyline, because it’s clear that the other things (cinematography, costumes) were very intentional decisions. I get that! The premise of the movie definitely is odd, I do think it all comes together but, yeah, weird for sure. I appreciate you subscribing and I hope I’ll see you around! 👋🏾
