I questioned this too ... but David questions " shouldn't I hate those who hate You". This would have been the pervasive mindset of the time. Later, though, Jesus taught that we must love our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

Look at all their songs.....they are not totally inclusive of all the words in the Psalms. Like the New Testiment they capture the spirit of the message more than the letter.
