I was almost struck by lightning a few years back. My mum and I were on a bushwalk and heading home as it had started raining, when out of nowhere this bolt of lightning hit a tree about 5 meters away from me. It was so loud and bright that my ears were ringing and for a sec I just saw white, and this huge bit of hairy bark from the tree flies past me. I started laughing hysterically as we ran for it - my adrenaline was through the roof. The next day we went back to check it and found that the lightning had nearly split the entire tree in two. Scary!

I was in my truck, and had a HUGE bolt strike right across the street one time. That was pretty intense. I can’t imagine standing outside and having it strike that close and throw dirt all over me.
