It's a sad story that the in-game Brenus ERA provides only 5 mm vs KE while IRL it was close to 100 mm (this is a thick heavy box, nothing like the Kontakt-1). The AMX-30B2 BRENUS also had a powerful DU APFSDS, the OFL 105 F2 as the tungsten OFL 105 F1 was deemed obsolete in the 1990s.

I wouldn't call it terrible, just situational. It's obviously going to perform poorly in close quarters but at range it's pretty good. The French 8.3 lineup overall follows the same trend of being terrible at close quarters but better than others at range. For my playstyle the lack of a stabilizer isn't too much of an impact but I can see why it would for others.

Good timing. I’ve been grinding this thing and have just started the grind on the Thermals. The lack of stabilizer would be terrible if I had switched to this from another nation. (Not that I havent played other nations but more like havent played them while grinding France) But since I went from France 8.0 to this, you’re kinda used to it. It still is annoying not having one and it does get you killed, but if you played France 8.0 before you have kind of adapted to it Edit: My friend I play with can attest I complain about the lack of stabilizer a lot though.

After playing tanks like the amx-13, char 25t, lorraine 40t, amx m4 and amx50 you get used to low vertical targeting speed and no stab, its a hard skill to learn but you can shoot on the move or short stop with the amx-30’s, a stab would be nice tho

Playing French tanks with no stabilizer almost makes it hard to switch to stabilized countries I’m so used to snap shooting that I can’t play stabilized without having to change my play style. Kind of fun if you ask me. Like driving a stick instead of an automatic

I will counter to say 8.3 France is fairly strong. You got the BRENUS, and the B2 which are pretty decent, the SK-105 which is fantastic, the DCA which is a good AA, and the 316 or 313 Alouette (if you like helis) which with 4 missiles can make a good impact each flight

They are very good at specific things. They are some of the best snipers in their BR range. They are awful though at brawling. You have to play passively but in the right scenario the whole 8.0-8.3 lineup is very good.

In a downtier ? Maybe. Against other 8.3 ? They're outright trash. But its not like its unfixable. It is. 2 copy paste and the MBT problem can be solved while leaving 4-5 premiums. Stab light tanks with 105mm? Copy paste possible for 2, 1 need chassis modelling and the last need both turret and chassis, last one includes (if Gaijin will) a DU round. Stab light tanks with 90mm ? 5 options including a thermal equipped one. Stab 40mm CTA ? Yes, 4 options with atgms, thermals everywhere. Stab 40mm Bofors AA? 2 options with apfsds and pfhe included, and even Thermals for one of them. Stab 30mm ? Only 1 but it comes with atgms and thermals. Stab 25 ? 5-7 options (out of memory I need to check those again). Did I precise all get APFSDS ?

The T84 would be awesome. It would be interesting because it is arguably the most well protected tank on earth right now and has some of the best optics available. Gen 3 thermals for all. The tank lacks in fire power because it uses a APFSDS round from the 80s, 3BM42. Not sure how Gajin is going to implement hard kill active protection systems that intercept projectiles. The T-84 as well as the T-90M, T-14, M1A2 SEP3 and many other gen 4 MBTs have these systems as well as many gen 4 IFVs

Thankfully this thing isn't 8.7 anymore. It was just dead in the water there. (and I'm going to say this pre-emptively because every time I say this someone appears out of thin air to defend this tank at 8.7 by just calling it a sniper tank or something similar while not understanding that literally every other 8.7 medium tank can do the same, but better, while being more flexible in everything but possibly gun depression, depending on which one we're talking about). I like to keep some heat-fs with me just because it deals better with things like the is-7. I still had a good time with it, because it wasn't good. So I didn't have any pressure to perform, and ended up playing stress-free. Now at 8.3 it's not quite as awful, and it's still decently mobile, but it's not great either since it depends a lot on if you get up or downtiered. If you get downtiered and all the stabilized tanks at 8.0-8.3 are on your team, then it's great. It's actually been pretty good now in 8.3 Squadron battles, since you're capped facing things at 8.3 and below, so the ERA is actually useful sometimes. (unless you fight a t-55AM, or anything else with apfsds or normal apds loaded). It can stop some missiles from the begleit and the missile from the IT-1, so that's nice I guess.

as a little note : the FCS on the BRENUS is very similar to what you would find on the AMX 32, but Gaijin chose to give that vehicle a 2 plane stab which it never had. If the Brenus was given that stab (as well as the 30B2) and moved up to 9.0/8.7 or 9.3/9.0 respectively, that would really give worthy vehicles to grind for France instead of the dumpsterfire that it France high tier currently

Except amx32 has stab...... Keyword being similar, amx32 use basically the same fcs but it has a gyro reference integrated into the fcs to allow stabilization. And of course it is connected to the machinery that moves the gun, and all the other complicated stuff.

Sadly still missing it's LWS which is part of the APS, and it's FCS is missing the COTAC optical stabilizer. Which lets you set the sight on a target and hold down trigger and it only fires when the barrel aligns with the sight

Tanks such as the Abrams, Challengers and Leopards have this system as well. Dont know about the eastern style tanks. The gun wont fire until its in line with the gunners retical since tanks are naturally rather bouncy when off road. Since this mechanic isnt implimented in the game, my guess is that whe it does, every vehicle that had something similar will get it, makingnyou not miss when someone, or you, suddenly bumb into the rear of a friendly tank. This has had me killed quite a few timesXD

All modern (most) works by stabilizing the sight, weather it be gunner sight or commander sight. Then the barrel follow the sight. When the trigger is pressed, the system will check is the gun align with the sight? If yes, gun goes boom. If no, system adjust gun to align with sight, then goes boom. The bouncing, then fire when align thing was trailed by people before, on many occasion. Surprise, surprise, it does not make sense and provide terrible accuracy. Why would you think that gives you pin point accuracy? If it is moving on 1 plane then sure. But what if your gun is bouncing on 2 plane? Stick to play games, not history.
