Amazing! It's great to see how gutenberg expands its features to cover more and more necessities of most basic websites to make them less dependent on page builders and outdated bloated plugins, which in the long term will make websites cleaner.

another great plugin by nick diego, simple, straighforward, useful. Greenshift has had mega menus for FSE nav for over a year now, the concept is quite similar, the mega menu itself is built elsewhere (here a "pattern", they used a "reusable template", which was what gutenberg had before the patterns update), but it's nice to see a plugin that blends it into the WP FSE experience rather than using it's own workflow (again, FSE patterns were not available when they built it, so they did it their own way and works quite well, even with mobile options). Great video :-)

When I add new template part, I do not see this 'menu' option at 1:43... I only see General, Header, Footer!

Hi Jamie, when I click on patterns and then create template part, menus are not in the list of options. I have mega menus installed and the latest word press version. What am I missing? Thanks

@@HullioGQ Nicks was only really a proof of concept - but the core functionality is there for someone to build it out - but i agree it's a bit sad no-one has taken up the challenge.

I've experimenting with rolling my own megamenus with html/css/js. I reached the same conclusion about activating it on click instead of on hover for accessibility, but may try doing both. Mega menu on hover is favored on many sites I frequent. Nick's primary menu is not accessible, so I couldn't test dropdown on [enter] or the historic Adobe accessible mega menu spec. There could be eventual legal requirements for accessibility.

@@AaAa-je5eo it won't be in core, but with a plugin it's now possible with a block theme - see link in description -

@@jamiewp Yes, saw all that. Maybe I'm just totally missing something here, but we can't download his plugin and use it with the latest WP though right? So it's not NOW possible, but it WILL be in the 6.5 release? As if I try now I just get a "The package could not be installed. Your WordPress version is 6.4.3, however the uploaded plugin requires 6.5.".

@@AaAa-je5eo That's right it will only work with 6.5 , but also his plugin is just a demo of what's going to be possible with 6.5. There's been a technical update that makes building a mega menu plugin much easier. So i expect we'll see a few on the market for block themes very soon.

What is a mega menu? For me the important moment was copy and paste.. so i dont know what happened!

Mega menus (sometimes spelled “megamenus”) are a type of expandable menu in which many choices are displayed in a two-dimensional dropdown layout.
