I don't know a solenoid from a hemorrhoid, but I love watching your pinball machine videos. They've taught me to respect the engineers and artists who made these machines, and the experts like you who keep them working for people to enjoy.

I guess a failed solenoid and a hemorrhoid would both be a pain in the a--. A solenoid is just a coil of wire that pulls in a plunger. The flippers are driven by solenoids, even in solid-state machines. The EM machines also use relays (much like solenoids, though they are electromagnetic switches, and function similarly to a transistor) and motors with cams that hit switches. I recently worked out in my head how switches and relays can do all the same logic that logic ICs in computers do. If you put two normally-open switches in parallel, that is an OR gate. If you put them in series, that is an AND gate. If you wire two 3-way switches together just like they are done for hallway lights, you have either XOR or XNOR depending on how you wire the pair of wires between the switches. And if not mistaken, if you wire the above OR I gave using normally-closed switches that might be NAND, and if you wire the AND above with NC switches, you'd have NOR gate. So if you need to do this automatically, you'd use relays (as in EM machines) or transistors in ICs as in solid-state machines. Folks have built relay-based computers over the years.

I really enjoy when you "step" us thru the schematic to understand the mechanical logic that runs the game. I feel like I'm learning something from these videos. Your playfield restorations always seem to bring the life back to these old machines. Thanks for making these videos.

Ronnie, you make learning just so much fun. Great talk on the bonus stepper and how it works. You make the schematics come alive. Thanks for the education.

Ever work on a 1976 gottlieb royal flush pinball machine? We had one when I was a kid. Lots of fond memories with it. In fact, I got so good at it that I flipped the score three times in one game. Man that was a fun game.

I 100% agree with the level of paint repair that you do. I even like that it is hand done. It's not a museum piece. It is a game that someone should have fun with. Fixing the blemishes is just fine. But you would need to get the correct pop bumpers! My favorite part of this video came at 59:10 when testing the bonus unit and Ron dropped ball in the out hole and....nothin'. Sorta sets up the next video!

You say it came out not exact, but I bet no one would really know where you touched up if they were not looking for it. You did an amazing job as always. You've really brought her to life. I am sure in your first test play when the score motor was fixed that it did count down the bonus then... Wonder what happened? Guess we will find out soon

Great tutorial. I missed the clear coat part. Did you use spray paint for that? No high gloss but matte or satin?

The bonus countdown was working properly in the previous video can be a bad contact on the bonus unit at the maximun position. Check if bonus count down work at 8,000 points for example

I'm with you when it comes to the "Made in China" stuff. As little as possible thankyou. We need to move away from this throwaway society, it's wasteful and costs more. I can see why people do it, because they look at their bank account, and then look at the 'now' cost when they should be looking at the 'long term' cost. I worked out years and years ago when it came to shoes, I can either spent 20AUD on a pair of shoes, then in 6-months time, spend another 20AUD, then in 6-months time, another 20AUD, etc... Over 10yrs, I would have spent 400AUD. Or, I can spend 200AUD on a good quality pair of shoes, and get 10yrs out of those instead (And I have). So sure, the person who only spent 20AUD, that's all it cost them in the now, but over that 10yrs, they actually spent 200% more on shoes than I did. The same goes for a lot of things.
