Working with Drew "WZRD BLD" Fulk on the last 2 albums certainly helped the metalcore sound shift. The self-titled album just feels really all over the place in terms of songwriting and production, and it's a shame because I think it's also the last album producer Kato Khandwala worked on before his untimely death.

Something I’ve grown to appreciate about Pop Evil is how a lot of times their 2nd verse will be a completely different thing from the 1st verse. Tool did that a lot too on their hits just to name one other example. I dig it. Adds a lot of unpredictability to the structure.
