The fact that he calls his female companion a bitch, and then refers to himself as a dog, suggests that despite the derogatory term and suggesting that she is merely an object to him, they are in fact at an equal level and should see each other in the same way. In a way, the meaning behind the lyric is rather thought provoking and meaningful.

When Todd say "oh it's the flow!" for a second I thought he was going to start talking about the triplet flow of most Migos songs, which is one the most influential and recognizable parts of their sound. Granted, they aren't the first ones to do it, but it's definitely prevalent across their music to a large degree. I really like trap music, it's fun and not all rap needs to be conscious. While I don't think Migos will ever be in the same class as Kendrick, I don't think they're really trying to be either. Different strokes I suppose.

So I listen to everything but just yesterday I said to my hubby, "I'm 57 and apparently I've reached the age where I don't get rap anymore. I who can listen to anything suddenly can't understand rap in 2017." I totally listen to all your videos and wow, when you said you didn't get some modern rap, I realized that it wasn't just me. Much of modern rap has this meta-nursery rhyme sing-songy feel and it felt so like doggerel I kept wondering if I was seriously out-of-the-musical-loop. Thank you, Todd. Thank you, thank you.

I'm not saying that AT ALL. First of all, only reason why Kendrick has those spots right now is cause it's the week his album came out, same thing happened for Drake, Future, and all big rappers who has albums come out in 2016-2017 thanks to Billboard taking in streaming statistics, next week they'll all be gone except Humble and whatever the next single will be. And I'm just saying that the past few months Hip Hop has been a very dominant genre in the Billboard Top 20, specifically stuff like Migos, Uzi Vert, Future, Kodak Black, etc. No fucking shit I know that all rap ain't like this, even new rap. I'm just talking the charts for the most part, you know, the things Todd actually pays attention to (once in a while we get shit like Kendrick or J. Cole in the charts, but for the most part, its' this kind of stuff).

This style of rap music is intentionally hallucinogenic, melancholy, and off-the-cuff, like the lean-soaked lonely and paranoid nights in the club it draws inspiration from. Those who live like this, both intentionally and against their will, are most likely to relate to the zombie malaise. I tend to be depressed and occasionally nihilistic so that's why I can get with this and Future and Travis $cott, etc. The biggest difference between this and something like Kid Cudi is how this feels a lot more spontaneous while still trippy, whereas Cudi is simultaneously too-mannered and too-lazy to produce anything this freewheeling.

Bryney P I can't figure out why so much rap sounds so fucking depressing recently. In a sad song it's fine but people will come up and talk about being rich, having expensive cars, clothes so on and so forth the whole time sounding like they hate it. If these songs have some sort of message like "being rich isn't everything and life is dull because of me caring about these things yadda yadda" then it's one thing but they definitely don't. Why do people like this stuff again?

@SaddisticSpeller
@SaddisticSpeller 7 жыл бұрын
Bryney P There's plenty of narcissism there as well, they just owned it with in your face delivery and beats. When they said they had money they would make it rain on 20 chicks barely dressed with a hard as fuck beat. When they said they would kill you there was genuine effort (not to mention 90s-00s rappers were actually physically menacing) into making it sound like they would just because they were bored. This list goes on for a while.
@brn8481
@brn8481 7 жыл бұрын
SaddisticSpeller Maybe it's just more prominent today because you're more concentrated on the lyrics than the beat? It’s been three years, but if anyone out there’s still wondering: Migos aren’t lyrically proficient because they’re not trying to be. Most people, at least in 2017, still expected rap to be about the lyrics before anything else, but its priorities have shifted over time. Mainstream rap is more about the vibe, the atmosphere nowadays. It’s not a drop-off in overall quality as much as it’s just the genre evolving to fit a different niche in a different world. Lyrics are more of a contribution to the overall vibe, more like another instrument than a separate component of the song. Fins evolved into legs, but you’re not gonna judge a lizard for its ability to swim. It’s a different animal now.

I hate this review. Todd usually makes me laugh but I have come to realize how much of a npc stereotype he is. He doesn't "get" this music because he thinks he is better than the people who do. Music doesn't need meaningful lyrics. People just want to zone out and chill sometimes. Modern rap is vibe atmospheric music that is based on a few memorable bars (2-4) with a good beat and the rest is filler. It isn't that difficult he is just being a douche looking down from his smug tower.
