I'm not sure how you're planning to make a box with a lifting lid.
@sikfreeze
@sikfreeze Жыл бұрын
@@thepop-upchannel4919 I'm thinking of a gift box with a hinged lid where the greater angle the lid is opened, the higher the small circular platform in the middle of the box will elevate and review the product sitting on top of it
@thepop-upchannel4919
@thepop-upchannel4919 Жыл бұрын
This is difficult and I can't think of an easy way to do it. A box with a platform inside it is not a problem, but having the platform height varying with the lid - not easy! Also being a pop-up means that the whole thing has to fold flat so whatever the product on the platform is it would have to be minimal thickness.
@sikfreeze
@sikfreeze Жыл бұрын
@@thepop-upchannel4919 Then it might not be a popup then. But kinda use the popup mechanism to lift up the platform depending entirely on the lid’s angle…I agree, this is hard. I’ve been trying to find the solution for a while, but still no hope. If I can make the lid’s opening pull a strip at the bottom so that an arch can be formed, then that might be a way…The only way to make this work I could come up with is to use gears

Hello sir I have been watching your tutorials for a while and find them really helpful in understanding the basics of pop up mechanisms. There was a book shown by you in tutorial for 45 degree folds- One Red Dot. There is another page in the book with pull tabs. As the tab is pulled, the flaps rise simultaneouly in opposite directions. Also in the adjoining page, the image(circles) move in opposite direction as the tab is pulled. Could you please guide me about the mechanism involved underneath it. How we manage to raise flaps in opposite directions with a single pull strip? Sir i am a 'Early Childhood Care and Education' student and plan to make a project file with pop ups. Kindly guide me
@thepop-upchannel4919
@thepop-upchannel4919 8 жыл бұрын
Hello.Tutorial 26 explains how to make flaps, both ones that move in the direction of the pull-strip and ones that go the opposite way. To make them all rise simultaneously (as seen in the book) the pull tab is actually T shaped with the cross bar of the T lying behind the page, the bottom of the T is the little pull-tab that shows above the page. All the small strips of card that actually raise the flaps pass down through the page and are attached to the T. The mechanism that moves the circles is a bit different - the ones that move in the same direction as the pull strip are explained in Tutorial 25. The ones that move in the opposite direction are moved by a loop of thread - unfortunately there isn't a tutorial on the finer points of this thread mechanism and I think to try and explain it here in writing would probably just be confusing. If you have a copy of the book I'd suggest carefully slitting open the edge of the page so that you can see how it works and then gluing it back together.I hope all this is helpful.Duncan

Thank you for such a prompt reply sir. I will try and make the mechanism of flaps as per your guidance. As for the circles, i dont have a copy of the book, but, would truely appreciate if you could kindly take out time to explain it. I would try and follow your instructions to make it, since i insist to make the phenomenon a part of my file. I apologise bothering you and am sincerely thankful for your help

The type of mechanism used to make the flowers is explained in Tutorial 26 at 2.55 - though in that example the strip is pulled by hand, in the example you're asking about the strip is pulled by the automatic mechanism.

For quick and easy folding as shown in these tutorials, where the card doesn't need to be scored, I use 160gsm. for more substantial models probably 220gsm. is better, but this will have to be measured and scored. The ideal card is as rigid as possible and as thin as possible. sometimes most of a pop-up could be relatively light weight card and just make it double thickness where a component needs extra strength. The size of the pop-up also dictates the weight of the card - the bigger the pop-up the heavier the card needs to be.

I use photo copy card - 160 gsm. You can use heavier card but will probably need to score the creases. The ideal card is rigid without being thick. The size of the design dictates what sort of card to use - if your design is very small you can just use any paper.

The Pop-Up Channel Is it similar to copy paper? Also, I'm trying to make a pop-up children's book for a school project.. How do I use the pop-ups and put them in a book? I'm using a no-line journal... I tried using printing paper yesterday and the pop-up kept acting weird when I opened it. I'm 100% sure I did it right. Sorry if this is too much but yeah.

You need to use card, not paper.
