Is hard to find videos that shows how to use the pop up mechanisms. I hope you keep maiking videos like these! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Thank you. I do plan more, but not till later next year as producing them takes quite a lot of organising. I am open to suggestions for specific aspects people would like to see explained.

That was great! I love how the eyes work looking side to side! I'm thinking of making a mouth open and shut instead of the message. Thanks for the tutorial. 😊

Muchísimas gracias por estos videos, son muy entretenidos y me alegra que esta información se comparta. Si la opción de UNIRSE estuviera habilitada, no lo pensaría dos veces para tomarla. Muchas gracias ❤️

Thank you so much for taking the time to do your videos. I've watched all of them, each one multiple times. I also have two of your books. I've always been fascinated by pop-up books, but they always seemed impossible to understand. Thanks to you, I can recognize different mechanisms in books now, and it isn't quite as big of a mystery as before. Please don't stop sharing your knowledge with everyone! You are the best teacher on this subject matter! With that said, I have a few questions. 1) I've opened intricate pop-up sheets where the engineer creates movement at every slight opening of the page. How do you control the timing of pop-ups that pop up right away once the page is slightly open vs. ones that don't happen until the pages are completely flat? 2) If I wanted to learn how to do very intricate complicated pop-ups, what's the best resource you could recommend? 3) In future videos, could you show how to do pop-ups using different materials, such as the spinning tornado in Robert Sabuda's Wizard of Oz? Thank you!
@thepop-upchannel49197 жыл бұрын
1. Controlling the timing - When the pop-up piece is fixed to the page close to the spine (for V-Folds a very small acute angle on the page between the pop-up and the spine - for Parallel Folds a very short distance, so the pop-up will be tall and thin) then just opening the page a little bit will show the pop-up popped up. When the pop-up piece is attached a greater distance from the spine then the base has to move (open) much more before the pop-up reaches its fully open position. If this primary pop up is being used to lift a secondary one (built into one of its gullies) then the delayed action will be enhanced. Hope this helps.2. Very intricate pop-ups. Hmmm! If you've watched the videos and read the book so you understand the principles then probably the best way is to try copying the designs of intricate pop-ups from books - you might even have to take the pop-up apart to fully understand the various lengths and angles.3. Yes, I probably should include a spinning mechanism in a future video. They are fun, and not that difficult. My hesitation is only that I'm a bit of a purist aiming to only use card, scissors and glue!

hello again, i think i just finished all your tutorials and am gonna practice each by each. for practice, i can use the paper you are using, but at the end of the day i want to make a post card with popup for my sister, and i wanted to know which paper is common for making real post card like a commercial one? i tried to google but a bit confusing. can you tell me that please, so i can order on amazon.
@thepop-upchannel49196 жыл бұрын
The best card is as rigid as possible and as thin as possible. In the videos I work with card that is 160 gsm. You could go for card as heavy as 220 gsm but then you will have to score all the creases. The weight of card needed is partly dictated by the size of the pop-up - the bigger the model the stronger the card needs to be.

Am really enjoying the tutorials and would love to buy the book, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere? Is it likely to be reprinted?

Yes - I've just talked to the publisher and they say that new stock has now arrived and will be available on Amazon, at the normal price, very soon.

Hello mr duncan im trying to make a forest which one of your tutorial episodes can be most helpful with the creation of that?
@thepop-upchannel49196 жыл бұрын
The easiest way would be to make a series of Right Angle V-Folds (Tutorial 2 at 5.30) - Make them all long and fairly low, Glue each one to the base page about 1 cm. behind the one in front, then cut out a lot of tree shapes and glue them onto the V-Folds so that as the base opens the V-Folds raise the trees.
@Yagizino6 жыл бұрын
The Pop-Up Channel thank you so much. I have tried this but the main problem is that the trees keeps curving down because of the paper. And when i close the page the tree logs get creases
@thepop-upchannel49196 жыл бұрын
If the trees are curving down because of the paper you will need to use stronger card. If the trees are creasing when you close the page then you need to adjust their positions so that this doesn't happen. One of the skills of pop-up is working out how and where things will fold away to.
