Great collection of videos detailing the Cairngorm loop(s). I have seen quite a few and I must agree the inner loop is non starter unless you are a masochist! I’ve done a fair bit of it on foot and by bike over the years and I’m hoping to get up there this autumn and give it a go. I also plan to add an additional day in, by going via Ballater and then coming up Glen Muick and over to Balmoral before cutting through the estate to Braemar (effectively missing out the Cullardoch climb in favour of the extra day). As always, Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching. It is nice to say you have ticked off a named route but it isn't worth suffering for. I'm a big fan riding your own ride and if that means making edits to a route then so be it. I hope you have a great trip and that the weather is even half as kind to you as it was to us!

brilliant video - as always - the inner loop looked totally draining . i really can't manage those non-stop boggy routes . thanks again . Gazza

It was hard but the weather and the views did a good job of distracting from the slog. We managed to peddle most of it so the boggy parts were just added spice really 😉

Cracking video, glad you had a good time, made me laugh when you said no more river crossings. Haven't been darn sarf to the cairngorm this year, went up north instead for my own little adventure with a more ride/less hike a bike. Its on my channel.
@JethroJessop4 ай бұрын
I wish I could ride the area more but for me it is very much "up north". It was a 9 hour drive each way! Well worth it though!

Really loved this little series. Thank you for sharing the ride - fabulous scenery despite the wet days and the boggy bits! You never did manage to stop Woody from chatting non-stop did you? 😂😂 Seriously though - he looks like good company for an adventure like that.
@JethroJessop4 ай бұрын
It's a weird thing talking to camera. It took me a long time to get comfy with it and I'd never want to inflict it on anyone who wasn't up for it. I try very hard to make sure the rides are all about the ride and not about making a video so the chat happens when it happens. Think I got woodie hooked though. He's already said he's ready for another!
@jonmarshall15023 ай бұрын
I’ve started watching more and more videos like this and it fills me with me with a sense of adventure to try it when life returns to normal. But I have a question, after you have finished these epic adventures do you have any sense of feeling “down” because it’s finished? Or does the “high” remain? Thinking and planning the next adventure?
@JethroJessop3 ай бұрын
Sometimes there is a post ride slump. Especially after longer rides of several weeks or more or after rides that have taken a lot of planning. It depends what you are coming back to as well. If the ride is over and that's it, no chance of another for a year then you might feel worse than if you can come back and immediately start planning the next one (this is my preferred cure)

You guys need to plant some damn trees lol. That amazing landscape is so different from mine here in southwestern Pennsylvania. Wow. Thanks for this video! And did you say Avonmore!??? That's so funny, given my comment, cuz I live near a town called Avonmore.
@Neil.C575104 ай бұрын
It's spelt Aviemore.
@JethroJessop4 ай бұрын
It is pretty bare in many places. I think it's a very manmade landscape after centuries of management. In lots of places they are starting to replant native trees but it's a big job that involves a lot of fencing and control of deer. The town we started and ended at is called Aviemore. It's a great base for any adventures in the area

@JethroJessop4 ай бұрын
@@notquiteultralight1701 you could do a hammock trip round there but you'd have to plan your route pretty carefully beforehand. I've yet to try sleeping in a hammock. I'd like to give it a go but I don't think it would be for me.

Great video , It looks like you took a van ,How would you compare it to the train ? I'm starting to dislike driving plus having to come across from the Isle of Wight it was £190 for a return .
@JethroJessop4 ай бұрын
We wanted to take the sleeper train but it would have been quite a lot more expensive and would have meant both of us getting to London which is a mission in itself. Then the dates we wanted were requiring bikes to be dismantled and bagged and it was just all too much. I would always travel by train as my first choice but it is always so expensive and a hassle with a bike. It's a great pity and a missed opportunity I think.
@kevindean96134 ай бұрын
@@JethroJessop It looks like I'd have to go via London to get most places & get from Waterloo to Liverpool st within a certain amount of time , I'll compare the prices to the car ferry etc .plus I guess you can chill out more on the train .
@martinashwell4 ай бұрын
@@kevindean9613 there is a daily direct train from Kings Cross to Aviemore which takes about seven or eight hours. Like most UK trains bike spaces are limited and I have heard (but don’t know for sure) that the bike spaces on the Azuma trains aren’t the best design, especially for bikes with large width tyres. Nice train journey though from a scenery point of view north of Newcastle
@JethroJessop4 ай бұрын
@@kevindean9613 if you can spring for a bed on the sleeper it is the absolute best way to ge to Scotland. Drops off in all the right places and usually has good bike spaces. It isn't cheap though. Getting a seat only ticket is much more affordable but not very comfy.
