I can't get over the magnificent use of silence in this work. Back in school, oh so many years ago, the teachers taught that negative space, void, absence, whatever you'd choose to call it, is just as important as what is added to the canvas. Here it is silence and the talking is what's added, and that is minimized. The combination is powerful.

So many years ago is right! The hyperinflated, unnatural pauses emphasize perfectly the discordance this dialogue has with reality. No one talks at this pacing and it looks totally bogus. @ASDasdSDsadASD-nc7if People actually do talk like that especially in moments like this that would take a lot of thought and would take some time to process how he feels about this situation it makes perfect sense for the pauses people don’t talk fast all the time and not everyone talks before they think and even when they do most don’t do that all the time either. The pauses make it feel more real than if they were to just blurt out everything without taking a breath or a moment to think. Your statement does not make sense and is rather childish.

@@ASDasdSDsadASD-nc7lfthey’re also doing more than just talking they’re expressing with their facial expressions and their eyes you can see on his face he’s processing a question that he wants to ask and death can see this there’s so much more going on during those pauses if you actually watch their faces it’s far more nuanced than them just being stupid and pausing for no reason. The silence adds much more depth than just adding more words. It adds not only a moment for a viewer to think but to show that the characters are taking by a moment to think and that they have a understanding going on in between words and it also leaves up to the viewer things to interpret ourself from there conversation what was his last question we don’t get to know but we can guess we can fallow his face to see that he has many questions maybe so many he couldn’t pick one or didn’t know if it would be alright to ask there’s just so much more to this scene than what you chalked it up to be. No it’s not perfect and maybe the pauses are more dramatized but not so much that it’s completely unrealistic or unbelievable or as you put sounding like a dullard. It’s still a good scene that the main comment was making a good comment about. And this mostly unpunctuated rant at 4 am was probably unnecessary but I get really annoyed at people making stupid comments about things they really didn’t take the time to understand before putting something or someone else down and your comment check that mark in my book at this time

An average story held together by actors who are at either ends of their peaks (Pitt emerging still, and Hopkins going through a brief decline). I mean, it's basically a riff on Seventh Seal, only less poetic and less artistic. More for a mainstream Hollywood loving audience. It's fine, but anyone that thinks this is the best scene of all time clearly doesn't know very much. Not to sound pretentious, but there's just better examples within the genre alone. @@nickmcdonald3083 exactly. Picking 90s films at random from your local blockbuster was surely going to have a fair few duds. I don't disagree that it's disappointing to see theatre films get ridiculous budgets and have idea how to use them, and smaller titles on streaming platforms usually undercooked I wouldn't say it's a male film issue, just the disappearance of 'off the shelf, middle budget cult classics' in the age of streaming.

this is realy a great movie, the acting is great and yet very suttle even in close ups. What i also like is the the scenes are long giving the actor to give there best. A rare gift in these days of CGI and green screen

Excellent movie, one of Brads best. Even the ultra wealthy, realize that in the end, all that money and cars, mansions, trophy gfs, yachts, are just toys to amuse ones ego, and nothing more. We are all just food for the gods

I mean, sure, but that extends further and also reaches both ways. Even the truly loved, realize in the end, that all the family and friends, treasured memories, everything they've built, were all just fleeting moments that go when we go, and nothing more. Still, I'd take cars, money, and mansions over over living life broke as fuck. Toys to amuse my ego are still better than no toys at all.

No gods just one God you have been sent here to prepare and develop to go to the next place which will be your final abode. The earth is just a womb it's just holds you for a while until you outgrow it and have to move one. The saddest thing for a person is not to know his creator not have any link with him I can't imagine the pain the helplessness and hopelessness of that person

The subtle ticking of a grandfather clock this entire scene. A sound easily overheard until met with mortality. Which I think is a more appropriate name than "death."

Somehow this movie is very similar to a Mexican old novel narrating during the Spanish colonial days "Macario" a mexican man living in poverty but visited by the "death" and a similar deal was made (by B Traven). A movie was made black and white during the 50s.
