I can't get over the magnificent use of silence in this work. Back in school, oh so many years ago, the teachers taught that negative space, void, absence, whatever you'd choose to call it, is just as important as what is added to the canvas. Here it is silence and the talking is what's added, and that is minimized. The combination is powerful.
@ASDasdSDsadASD-nc7lfАй бұрын
So many years ago is right! The hyperinflated, unnatural pauses emphasize perfectly the discordance this dialogue has with reality. No one talks at this pacing and it looks totally bogus. Two excellent actors directed to talk..................at a speed................only dullards..............think at..............and...........even..............still.............never..............never.............use.
@nanac6515Ай бұрын
@ASDasdSDsadASD-nc7if People actually do talk like that especially in moments like this that would take a lot of thought and would take some time to process how he feels about this situation it makes perfect sense for the pauses people don’t talk fast all the time and not everyone talks before they think and even when they do most don’t do that all the time either. The pauses make it feel more real than if they were to just blurt out everything without taking a breath or a moment to think. Your statement does not make sense and is rather childish.
@nanac6515Ай бұрын
@@ASDasdSDsadASD-nc7lfthey’re also doing more than just talking they’re expressing with their facial expressions and their eyes you can see on his face he’s processing a question that he wants to ask and death can see this there’s so much more going on during those pauses if you actually watch their faces it’s far more nuanced than them just being stupid and pausing for no reason. The silence adds much more depth than just adding more words. It adds not only a moment for a viewer to think but to show that the characters are taking by a moment to think and that they have a understanding going on in between words and it also leaves up to the viewer things to interpret ourself from there conversation what was his last question we don’t get to know but we can guess we can fallow his face to see that he has many questions maybe so many he couldn’t pick one or didn’t know if it would be alright to ask there’s just so much more to this scene than what you chalked it up to be. No it’s not perfect and maybe the pauses are more dramatized but not so much that it’s completely unrealistic or unbelievable or as you put sounding like a dullard. It’s still a good scene that the main comment was making a good comment about. And this mostly unpunctuated rant at 4 am was probably unnecessary but I get really annoyed at people making stupid comments about things they really didn’t take the time to understand before putting something or someone else down and your comment check that mark in my book at this time

I’ve watch this movie over 100 times. Glad that it’s finally getting the attention it deserves. ❤

Somehow this movie is very similar to a Mexican old novel narrating during the Spanish colonial days "Macario" a mexican man living in poverty but visited by the "death" and a similar deal was made (by B Traven). A movie was made black and white during the 50s.

The biggest problem i have with this movie is that if you see death in that way, it confirms death is not the end. And it changes existential fear of not knowing to at best some nostalgia for soon to be end earth existence.

I've never seen this movie. It came out when I was too young to understand anything. Looking at a few clips, though, this really seems like a movie I would really enjoy.
